Finally got my broadband settled and calm - tend to average under 20 over longer tests with the odd spike to 60 etc now. Used to be worse, but working fantastically now.

Over longer tests (which I won't bother spamming) it averages out generally under 20ish. Every 15 or so you get a little jump between 40-70. It used to be very poor - but have been working with them to iron it out - and I am exceptionally pleased with how it worked out - and also the level of support from their team.

I believe the contention ratio has nothing to do with the problems we are expereincing, in the UK the contention ratio on BT is 49/50:1 and knowing bt they will max that out if they can. PPL over there get pings of 40  to uk, Dutch, french and german servers. About the same number of hops from .ie to .uk.

I believe the problem is internal network capacity, or rather lack of it...

I only been on DSL for 2 weeks, 1st week was great 40-80 pings, last week, nightmare 200+ pings, with ocasional drop to below 100, just to see it fly back to 200+ again.

    Idd.

I made this chart the other day, pinging www.jolt.co.uk starting about 18:30 til 20:30, starts of with nice 30-50 pings. Once the warez monkeh's start around 18:30-19:00 its starts getting worse, and worse and worse till it goes above 200 and stays there....

i was talking with Mr.Taz and indeed his pings are awful and his download speeds are awful

will netsource have any customers left when peoples contracts run out?

  • Registered Users Posts: 228 ✭✭MrB

Lazy/busy people like me might not get around to canceling by the end of our first two months and so might be a around a bit longer!
Of course with everyone else gone the service might reach acceptable levels, so we might stay :)

Still the EsatBT business DSL is looking more and more attractive, I’ll just tell them I’ll be using it to RAS into work (which is true, just not the main use by far!)
