McLaren to share old engines

McLaren are looking into powering more than one team in a similar way to Ferrari powering Sauber with older engine units. They were saying that they changed their previous philosophy of concentrating on just one team because their productions costs have been increasing and need a backup source of income.

Sounds like a good idea except if they are going to be giving out last years engines, they won;t have to many buyers

    :p

The attraction is that they're offering them at a fairly cheap price. I believe the asking price is $10million. In comparison, Jordan are paying $18 million for the Ford engines this year and Sauber are paying an unknown amount to Ferrari, but you know it's going to be pricy since they're reported to also buy a gearbox and rear suspension as part of the package.

    Re. specification unit Mercedes V10...
if Norbert haug is to be believed, a 2003 spec Merc V10 at €10,000,000 would be a steal. Trouble is, who is goign to buy them? Sauber and Ferrari are far too cosy, Jordan are signed up to FORD in a multi-year deal leaving Minardi as the only possible buyer. Of course, there is a GERMAN consortium trying to set up a tram for next year...
