    Hello.
I am just starting to get into really fast, hard metal, like megadeth and slayer, and i d/l'd gyroscope by In Flames. I REALLY like the music for that song, but the singing kinda puts me off.
Are there any bands which sound like that but without the growly-sorta lyrics?

    /looks at angelwhore and pornapster...

    Demons and Wizards!!!!
lots of heavy riffs, double kick and sexual solos but with wonderfully cheesy clean vocals (listening to it right now actually)

i'd say Blind Guardian/ Iced Earth are similar but i haven't heard any of there stuff tbh

think ManO'War might be clean vocals too... not sure

Dont get me wrong i love In Flames, but does anyone else think they could do with a better vocalist than Anders? (isn't it?)

im also looking for heavy stuff w/ clean vocals too so lets hear lots of recommondations!

LOL... well obviously you like Manowar so nothing is too gay for you (LOL... only kidding!). So I'd say try some of HammerFall's stuff. I don't personally like them, but some people do.

I was about to say the same, another few GREAT sentenced songs to get are:
    Broken
    Noose
Excuse me While I Kill Myself

I also havent found a bad song from them.

    *flicks through play list*
For something softer (ie: power metal) you could go for Sonata Arctica , Lost Horizon, or Sinergy. 3 very good bands, with some blindingly fast riffs and very good vocalists. Or for something... diffrent, try Nightwish, another power metal band, but this time their vocalist is a (female) opera singer, and their also a superb band.

Conor, as your fellow bandmate, I intend to give you the dignity of a quick death from my axe for such a remark ! :p

If you listen to reroute to remain album there are some killer riffs with good harmonic vocals in a few songs!
And if you cant even handle that, i suggest a move to coldplay......

    Some selective Opeth?

    Lacuna Coil?

Tbh, i don't hear many people sing about death in a sweet voice....

Oh, and yay on the demon hunter avatar dude :D

I've never heard any Manowar but my mates love em' (have to get a lend  )

whats the relationship between manowar and hammerfall anyway? (are they like a side project or something?)

and whats so gay about a bunch of huge muscle bound musicians who dress themselves in a manner which reflects there obvious strength, musical talents and dedication to their genre?

    HammerFall

The worst thing about them is their cheesy lyrics.

    Lads, honestly...

If you dont cop on with the 'Gay' references, I'm going to have to start beating some heads. No joke!

    As for Death/Black Metal try:

Behemoth - As Above So Below
    Anathema - Sleepless
Spiral Architect - Insect(Especially Pornapster, check these guys out!)
    Carcass - Heartwork
    Arcturus - Master Of Disguise
    Opeth - Advent
Mayhem - Buried By Time And Dust
    Vader - The Code
    Emperor - Decrystalizing Reason
Amon Amarth - Death In Fire
    Dissection - Soul Reaper

    What the hell?

    Carcass aren't exactly a soft-spoken bunch

I mean, Bill Steer was their vocalist!:p

To be honest Conor there ain't much black or death metal bands without growled or rasped vocals ... but you should give it a chance and eventually you'll love the stuff. You'll probably end up wanting to hear more extreme stuff from Slayer and Megadeth and then you'll be on to the death/black metal. The first death metal bands i got into was Obituary cause they produced some bloody great riffs and drumming and there songs have a great atmosphere. Some of there songs have very little vocals so you might wanna check them out .. try the song Dying by Obituary ... has very little vocals but is great :)

Hmmm, I personally like the growling, i.e Suffocation and Disincarnate and the like. Carcass, though I love them, are more screechy.
    Some selective Opeth?

So here is the deal, I bought an Opeth cd by accident there on Wednesday, this thread could not have come at a better time.

If anyone wants this cd, pm me your address and I will pop this limited edition so-called digidisc musical cd in an envelope and post it off promptly.

(and thus, getting it the hell away from me)

What's with the MonoWar bashing? They're brilliant, in a really cheesy-80's-big-hair-metal sorta way... Good for a laugh, and you can see some talent in their playing.

Yes, cheesy, we all have a soft spot for somethng like that...
