    any one know how i can save the .ram files to my hard disk. ia m trying to save the girst grub links but all i get is a pointer to the file.

    i have watched how the file plays and it seems to come down in two parts the first part it is the todayfm slogan and then it loads the main gift grub file.

    the main file is the onw i want but i cant seem to download it.

    Any ideas.save target as i have tried and using a download manager as well.

    It may have saved itself to your internet browsers cache ?

    Unless it's a streamed file in which case I don't know of any way of getting it.

    it seems to be a streamed file but il check the ie cache.

    *EDIT*

    i think i solved the problem. i was right it is two files and i have solved it i think.

    its not a ram file i am looking for but a .rm file.

    You need a couple of programs.

    1. Streambox VCR 3.01
    2. URL Snoop (or a similar packet sniffer that you know how to use).

    1. Streambox VCR is discontinued due to Real Media sueing their asses. However you can still get some copies on the net. A certain file sharing program beginning with K, ending in A and with an AZZ in the middle is a good place to start.

    2. URL snoop is still alive an dyou'll get it if you look around Google. "Project URL Snoop" is the name.

    You start the packet sniffer while streaming the *.ram file and then when you see it picking up the traffic, stop the stream. You should then see the *.ram URL (which I assume is hidden behind lots of javascript or something).

    Paste the *.ram URL into Streambox, et voila....

    any other Q's or probs PM me.

    should work for *.rm files, but if its not js embedded you don't really need to go to that hassle :)

    Try this:

    Right click on the link to the ram file and download it to your machine. Then open the ram file in notepad and see if the rm file is linked to via http. If the address starts with nntp or something similiar then you're out of luck and need to check some of the other options mentioned above. If it does start with http then copy that address into a new file in Notepad that has the following:

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Get RealPlayer file</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <a href="THEADDRESSOFTHERM">Right click this link to download</a>
    </body>
    </html>

    Put the address of the RM file in where it says to put it and then save that file to your computer with .html as the extension (ie. getrm.html). Then open it up in your browser and right click and click "Save Target As..." Job done.

    I've tried downloading the RM file in Download Mage (http://www.dlmage.com) and it works perfectly.

    (Download Mage is a very small but brilliant download manager)

    the saving method won't work if the url is rtsp:// (streaming)

    got the files down by first downloading the ram file and viewed it thorugh a file viewer which showed two files the first being the file played on every occasion and the second being a .rm file which is the one i wanted.

    i downloaded the .rm file with a download manager and only had to double check a few as the file naming convection was different.

    so know i have the full list of gift grubs that are posted on the website.

    i am off now to enjoy them.

    its true what they say if you can code it some can decode it.

    thnaks for the help guys.

    the man speaks the truth!

    the website link is to a .ram, but what we want is the .rm

    so, cpy the shortcut,

    http://www.todayfm.com/audio/GIFTWILL.ram

    change the file extension to .rm

    http://www.todayfm.com/audio/GIFTWILL.rm

    and download it.

    you could get 'em all at once with Download Mage.

    Hey, just wondering if it possible to save Windows Media streaming files like music videos etc.?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,563 ✭✭✭leeroybrown

    Windows Media (asf/asx) streams can be saved using asf recorder.
    (http://sourceforge.net/projects/asfrecorder/)

    Is there anything you can do if they are of this format?

    Eg. rtsp://media.channel4.com/e4/alig/alig1.rm

    ive saved all the gift grubs & am tryin 2 figure out that eo video , can anyone shed any light on how to use to convert .rm files to wavs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,718 ✭✭✭whosurpaddy

    dosent matter, i got it figured. :D

    whats the best program 4 converting said wavs into mp3s so the gift grubs can end their journey from horrible real media caterpillars as beatiful mp3 butterflies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭woolymammoth

    you won't need to. you can set EOvideo to use MP3 compression. they'll still be WAVs but they'll have MP3 size.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,515 ✭✭✭irishgeo

    having compressed using the wmp3 compression method using eovideo.

    Would it not be a case of changing the file extension from wav to mp3 to get mp3's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭woolymammoth

    well if you really have to have mp3s instead of WAVs, then ya. it doesn't make any difference really. once they're not a couple of megs then i'm happy! ninjasmilie1.gif
