Need a bit of moderating advice!

Hi folks,

Just looking for advice of ye here since this is probably the best run board I've posted on, anyways...

I run an organisation for musicans at www.gigsmartireland.com and as part of my work on there I help moderate the forum we have there.

One of the members hath been posting drivel all over the boards. Their supplied email address proved to be inactive so I posted a polite but firm message on the main board asking her to stop. I know who this person is as the boards membership consists mainly of musicians that have worked through the organisation.

Anyway she came back posting twice as much drivel and abusing anyone that asked her to stop (moderators and members alike). I then banned her which is pretty much what I'd expect you masters of the web boards to do. Now the ex-member re-registers and carries spamming the board. I keep deleting hand re-banning her but the cycle continues daily.

I know she psots from internet caafes so an IP ban can't be done. Any suggestions for getting rid of this woman off of my board?

Ok, what you have to do is:

1. Make it more difficult for them to create a new account then it is for you to delete them. If you are running VBB, turn on email validation (it will send a link to the mail account which has to be clicked before the account is active). This means she will have to create a new account each time (you dont delete her, you ban her and you make sure you have One Mail Account per User set so she cant use the same account again).

2. Turn on the feature to mail you whenever someone joins, this way you have a list and since these people arent too bright they tend to us a continuity of username (DeVoreisGay6 etc). Since it mails you at the same time as it mails them the auth-link I particularly like to ban them before they even get that mail. Its just a little flourish.

3. Hurt her where she lives. This is my personal favourite because I'm a vindictive little fnck sometimes
Whatever she is promoting, selling or asking for attention for, thats her weak point. Make sure everyone who LIKES your site understand that she is HURTING you guys and that you should not support her. Then find her boss, or someone she has to cow-tow to (like a major supplier) ... what you are looking for her, is someone who:

a. Can hurt her or who she needs to stay on good terms with. Someone she doesnt want pissed off.

b. Someone who could care less about her really, but who REALLY doesnt want a load of angry musos on their case.

Now here comes the nasty bit. You hurt the person who has power over her by mass mailing them, by pointing out their involvement with her, by threatening a boycott if she doesnt stop.
You get RIGHT IN THEIR FACES and explain how much you'd REALLY like them to explain to her that she should go away and leave you alone. Since what you are asking is pretty easy for them, and what you are threatening is BAD NEWS, they'll usually let the person know. Unfair? Oh sure, but this is war

Usually a combo punch-kick of these moves will make it a complete pain for her to continue harrass you.
