Done a search and havent seen this suggested before.

How about a bargain board? We all come across fantastic bargains on the web or in real life that other people could benefit from. Why not share them? This could relate to great prices for anything at all....CDs, Games, Books, Furniture......Fruit...etc

For example, over Easter the CDwow.co.uk site (not the .ie although it still has free shipping etc) was doing a promo that allowed you to get up to £2.99 sterling of each purchase. I managed to get a few albums for just over €8.

It would have to be very strictly moderated to only allow genuine bargains. The DVD forums have a very successful example at : http://thedvdforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=41

The heavy moderating would be a definite, ebid.ie has problems with people selling "Great Bargains!" and its like, a link to their companys website.

I have no idea how bargains could be distinguished from pimping.

Still, a novel idea :), i'm sure some of the other lads will have a good idea on how to make it work.

I think this would be a good board. I've come across a few sites from other boards here that have some good prices and I'd never have known about them otherwise. It's saved me a bit of money. Granted the pimping could get to be very annoying but maybe if it was like DeVore's Letters To The Editor board where all posts must be approved before they show up, it could discourage the scum from even trying.

Theres one called "Bargain Hunt" on the Hexus forums http://forums.hexus.net/ might give you some ideas.

thedvdforums have a bargain board that has been the cause of much strife with them, as regards spamming and pimping and illegality.

It's a pretty good idea, but I would advise the admins to take a wander over to thedvdforums.com and have a look at the huge announcement above the bargains forum, to get a feel for what to expect.

(Maybe it could be another fringe benefit of the subs package. "Join boards.ie and get access to a list of some great bargains on the net!" :))

Have picked up quite a few bargains from the DvdForums, and i think it would be nice to have a similar board here with an Irish perspective. Although, i concede that it could be target of all sorts of muppets to spam.....wouldnt really know unless you try tho' eh?

I agree. Often on the lookout for good deals. It would, as mentioned, have to be on a moderated-by-post basis to prevent abuse.

    It is what it's.

How about a more general consume rights board that would replace the Euro Hike board and take some stuff from B/E/F?

That would never work. I don't think it needs to be that heavily moderated. If someone posts something that a genuine offer then fair enough. If it was that great a deal, then people are sure to tell them. Around here if you try to give stuff away for free people say its too expensive! Can't see too many companies pimping their wares.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

If any companies did try and pimp their wares, they'd be spotted and shot down instantly by the users, nevermind the mods.

Think it'd be a good idea meself.

A board like that, with 10 or so trusted moderators would be grat, being moderated on a post by post basis.

The posts would get up soon enough as of the ten mods there is bound to be one around and the workload for each mod would be very low.

Pimping would be huge, which is why I believe the post - by - post mederating to be necassary.

I like this idea, though I want to control the Viagra spam-merchants. I'd like to be able to offer genuine traders a place for them to put an offer a week or something, and for others to be able to alert the community to a genuinely good deal.

Any other thoughts on this? I could be posting about the fancy 3 DVDS for €30 in Virgin or the 2 for €32 in HMV, some awful good deals there.

    :)

    great idea !!!

    never miss a sale again

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,901 ✭✭✭Vexorg

Just Spotted this thread... been thinking about such a forum for a while as well

I think it should have posts from members and retailers however retailer posts much be exceptional even rare offers, definately not a weekly or monthly offer... I like the idea of having a central source of offers, best price on a particular DVD / CD.

Probably will need tough love moderatorship to begin with and a nice clear set of rules..

So Applications for Moderatorship again please.. :) and lets start the discussion or rules to make this work...

    Lo Mercie Werkie:)

FYI I perfer to be refered to as Sexy Vexy or Sexborg by those who know me and as Sir by those less familier with me...

Anyhow.. I think you got it in a nutshell when you said...

My thoughts being that boards has some hardcore and long time web hounds and they know places that your average Joe don’t when it some to shopping on the net and finding the real bargains?

Humm yes you have some good ideas there Mr Tilt... Tell me more!.

So I find a great bargain and I post it to the Bargain board. And it gets approved. And then somebody else find it even better the following week.

I would have no problem with this, I bought it at whatever price I thought was good for said item but some muppahs will undoubtedly whine about buying it for more the previous week. This may discourage some people from posting bargains that they have spotted. Now obviously such posts could be modded out of existence but the fact that they came up in the first place would be a bit off putting. Perhaps one of the rules should be that ya gets what ya gets and don't whine about it. If you miss a bargain then hard luck and if you take up on another bargain and one comes up cheaper next week then tough.

I know that it's common sense and that but common sense does not always prevail.

The there would be no muppetism is a tough one. It will have to be moderated with the Monty Glove of steel ®©. Absolutely no muppetry allowed, and no questions asked, strict guidelines that are adhered to.

BTW this could also be used for group purchasing, manufs and traders will lower prices quicker if they are selling 15 of something.

We should really do this. When my life comes down from the stratosphere of activity I'll get it set up.
