What does this mean exactly? What kind of memory does it support officially? PC3700? PC3200? How do you tell?

    Thanks,

DDR333 runs at 166MHz and is PC2700 as that is it theoretical bandwidth.
    DDR266 runs at 133MHz and is PC2100
    PC3200 would be DDR 400
    PC3700 would be DDR 466

To clarify PC2700 has a theoretical maximum memory bandwidth of 2.7Gb

    3.2 Gb for PC3200, etc.

Faster memory will obviously increase PC performance.

You'll only gain performance if your Motherboard can use the RAM at it's designed clock speed. So theres no real point on wasting money od dear RAM if you run it at a lower speed.

to further complicate issues, 2700 is of no advanage over 2100 unless its CL2

[edit] to answer your question, that board can run either type of RAM, 2700 (333) CL2 would be the fastest, but depending on the CPU you run, might be of no benefit to you [/edit]

    ok i get the main point i.e. 333 = 2700. but what is cl2? I Have a P4 2.53GHZ.

well for that CPU, go CL2.

its more or less the time it takes in clockcycles to find a given row in the memory bank.

    How so?

Do you mean it's not much better, or not better at all.

My understanding was that CL is CAS Latency, and is the delay before column read starts, whereas PC2700 is saying the clock is 166 Meg DDR, which is the clock speed ie. bandwidth.

    So, PC2700 CL2 has bandwidth 2.7G, latency 2n.
    PC2100 CL2 has bw 2.1G, 2n latency.

yes, i reckon what he means is pc2700 @cas 2.5 is not much faster than pc2100 @cas2. if ur buying ddr ram make sure u get ram that runs at cas 2.
or as i did got crucial pc2700 ram specified at cas2.5 but i run it at cas 2 and its never givin me any problem.

    up to urself

well what i mean, is that it benchmarks no better unless its CL2, there was an article on tomshardware a while back about it.

according to that review, and a few others, 2700 & cl 2.5 is no better than CL2 2100.

i have a pretty similar question, i'm gonna be getting a new mobo for my athlon xp(palomino), i dont plan to unlock the multiplier so would i be better to get ram working at 266 mhz, same as the cpu bus speed rather than 333 or 400?

no harm in buying cheap 2700 and running it at cl2 if it will run it.

ok can someone tell me(preferably on the komplett site or any site which sells cheaper ram...) which ram is cl2 and pc 2700? This whole thing is confusing me...
