I've just put together a really nice budget PC for a buddy.

I hate spending money on PCs the depreciation is just too frightening. They day after you spend your money a better version of the product comes out for less.

Your €800 bargain sounds almost identical to a PC I built last June for €1500:

    XP 2000+
MSI KT3 Ultra ARU (Raid, USB 2, on board sound)
    256MB PC2700
    60GB 7200 RPM HDD
    Liteon DVD
    Liteon CDRW
    56k Modem
SB Audigy Player ( a waste of time - I should have used the perfectly good on board sound)
    Inno3d Geforce 4 ti 4200 64MB
Creative FPS2000 4.1 surround sound speakers (a complete bargain at under €50 new)
    56k Modem
    MS optical mouse.
Cheap 300W case - optional window if I remove the side panel
    Scrounged keyboard.
    Mousemat - regulation grey - €2 from It-Direct
    Windows XP home (OEM)

As a matter of interest where did you buy most of the bits ?

I bought everything from EBuyer in Sheffield.
Sterling is getting hammered by the Euro so the exchange rate is good.
Delivery is about 50 euro but on a big order it is easily absorbed.
Komplett are good too but their choice isnt as varied.

If you buy a good Bang per buck PC the depreciation isnt too bad.
That PC cost about 770-790 euro dependant on what rate AIB charge ( no doubt it wont be anywhere near what It should be ).
It shouldnt depreciate too much over the first yr.
Obviously if you go out and buy the top of the range spec you are looking at massive depreciation ,50% over the first yr.
And its 50% of alot as opposed to maybe 30% of a little.
