Just noticed the amount of alternative stuff popping up and some great programs i was missing out on.

The main changes for the better i've had are

    IE6 to Mozilla
    Old antivirus to AVG antivirus

Currently downloading OpenOffice to see if its anything on MSOffice XP, its free so good to know.

Anyway one thing that pisses me off is MS MEDIA PLAYER.I have the v6.4 which is okay v9 which isn't great. Don't like realplayer, or quicktime, or winamp (not for films)

Anyway does anyone rate another media player for file types such as avi, mpg, asf, wmv, which is small and easily to update codecs, maybe skinnable. But interested in anything anyone think is worth a look.

bsplayer is pretty good alright but I had some trouble with it on my desktop, every now and agian it would refuse to start up "can't access temporary directory" was the error it gave.

if I left it alone for a half hour or more it wouyld usually fix itself, but then it would happen again after a while
    *shrug*

no idea why, but it's a great player other than that

    cheers,

went with bsplayer, worked fine, had a little problem with some asf files but it was due to having a fecked MS Mediaplayer so just reinstalled that and it was fine. Lots of nice features on it too.

but its the way in which it does. Winamp (winamp2 by the way) is for my music only! :D

BS suits me purrfect, lots of nice little touches and short cuts, and it was handy to skin too.

Tis Dinky too if you want it to be. The auto close when the film is over tho crashes for me, had to turn it off.

Have you tried Winamp 2.91 ?

Coz I have 2.9 and that plays videos.

can Winamp3 access all system codecs..

    such as divx,mp3,xvid?

or priorpetory codecs written for winamp?

    it was born for mp3

having downloaded DirectX9a Winamp will now play DivX Video

    unsure of xvid

I find Zoom Player to be pretty good. There's loads of options to play around with, if one was so inclined.

Yeah BSPlayer's your only man alright....If your gonna be looking at stuff on a widescreen (16:9) TV then go with Zoom Player.

Don't install WMP 7, 8 or 9 if and you ever run into difficulties with any of the other players revert to WMP 6.4, the stablest of the lot.

    =rez=

p.s. you should try Opera as an alternative to IE, it's better than Mozilla IMHO.

and if you want I nice email client try 'The Bat!':

p.s. if you ever have a codec problem open the video in WMP 6.4 and it will connect up and download the correct codec and begin to play. Then you can open it up in any player as codec will be installed.

If WMP can't find codec use G-Spot to analyse the file and scour the net for the codec itself :)

Why make a statement that you wont try and back up.

I like winamp3 but I still use winamp 2.xx simply because of the fact that I have 1000+ and I find it harder to find what I looking for on the playlist. I use cd lookup on musicmatch and on winamp3 everything is by a various artist.
