i read an article in the guardian the other day that suggested that Steak knife was one of 3 or more high level informers in the IRA or Sinn Fein in the 80's.
If the control of FRU / M15 over their retired handlers' confessionals is slipping maybe Scapattici (?) is a total smokescreen while they get out others higher up the food chain ?

or maybe the FRU / Special Branch don't care what happens to their erstwhile informants and hope that by throwing them to the provo wolves they can get rid of yet another potentially embarassing source of dirty tricks stories ?
It's becoming so murky I doubt anyone on either side of the fence knows whats the truth now!

Rumours about 'Stakeknife' have been flying about in republican circles for a long time.

Most republicans find it a little too convenient that all this information was suddenly released....
