Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So lads the season is over and everyone is now sitting back to watcht the transfers. Names like Duff, Finnan, Kluivert, Rustu etc are been mentioned.

So see if you can do a "mystic meg" and pick the in's and out of your club.

State club then transfers in & transfers out. Be as honest and realistic as possible, then if we are allowed cough "gandalf" cough we will haul this thread up in August to see how we get on.

    ManU

    In's - Kluivert, Kewell, Robinson

Out's - May, Blanc, Chadwick, Barthez

    Liverpool:

In's: Le Tallac, Pongolle (top marks for me :p), Finnan, Malbranque, Duff, and hopefully any centre half that is better than Traore

Out's: Berger, Diarra, Heskey, Heggem, Vignal, Arphexad and maybe even Hamann

Thats a lot of money to spend in one Summer  There must be at least €50 million in transfer fees alone there!

I think United will sign Joe Cole and Paul Robinson and one big signing, but I do not think that will be Kluivert. Surprised to see you have Veron down as leaving Porn. Cant see that happening as United would have to take to much of a loss on him. Besides, IF Beckham does go we will need Veron.

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

I can't see Fergie buying unproven players, because United definately are going for the Champions League next year. I'd say a big name defender and a big name goalkeeper will be on Fergie's mind. Robinson isn't a proven keeper at European level, and Joe Cole isn't anywhere near as good as European standard IMO. They are two good premiership players, I agree with you on that one. But I'd say we'll be going all out on Europe next season.

What about W.Ham's players? Where will they go. Reckon the likes of ferdinand will stay. But James, Cole, Sinclair, Kanoute. Talk about a mass exodus. I think the likes of spurs and blackburn will pick up the pieces. Imagine Cole at spurs. Thats like sol campbell moving the ars.

Im not saying hes as good as other keepers (eg Buffon) at other top European sides, but the year Leeds reached the semi-final of the CL, Robinson did extremely well in Europe imo. I think hes about as good as any other keeper out there that is available at the moment.

I hope to god united don't buy Kluivert. If they do he will be forever known as Andy Cole the 2nd.

Yes, I'd much prefer someone like Inzaghi or Vieri to him.

GH has confirmed today that he will bring in "least 3 more players" to replace players that are leaving.

That would make one believe that with Xavier and Heggem leaving that he will bring in two defenders to cover and with Berger and Diomede leaving there will be 2 wingers coming in.

Only qustion is how good will they be:(

I think united will sign Ronaldinho and a solid centre half possibly Ayala, I can also see them signing some obscure goalkeeper from a third world country who turns out to be a hero.

Jermaine Defoe has handed in a transfer request interesting to see where he goes he is a good talent. I think a lot of mid table clubs will strengthen their squads courtesy of West Ham. How they went down with so much talent is beyond me.

I think Liverpool will get Malbranque as he has a clause in his contract allowing him to go if Tigana goes. I hope Fulham can hold onto Finnan, as he is a good defender and excellent going forward. All depends on who the new manager is.

Liverpool to bring in a load more no namers.

Chelsea will have to buy some players, Zola could go and they need someone to fill his boots.

    Speaking of which

    Chelsea's rumoured ins:

    Okocha
    Carrick
    Lopez C (not Jennifer pity)
    Solano

Out of those 4 Lopez is only a possibility on a free Carrick is off to Boro prob for 7m Okacha will stay at Bolton
and can't seen Nobby Solano leaving.

Chelsea need an RB to replace Ferrer, and crying out for a creative CM and possibly a lef sides player

Gareth Barry would be ideal I rate Brown from Sheff Utd, Dunn has had an average season but has a knack of getting goals out of nothing.

Joe C is off to Pool for 10 Kanoute also for 6.

w00t, sounds like a good idea, ill throw a few predictions out there:

    Arsenal ins:

Some guy noone has ever heard of/vaguely heard of who turns out to be pretty good
    Rustu

    Outs:

Pires (god i hope thats not right)
    Dinny

    Uni'eh
    Ins
Makele if they pawn becks off to madrid
RVN has been far too successful so they are due a bussiness as usual united striker (i.e. Cole). Kluivert?

    Outs
    One from Goldenballs/Giggs
    Barthez

    Chelsea
    in's
Anyone over the age of 30 really

    Liverpool
    In's
Some low profile player who will continue to be a low profile player (cant really go wrong with that one :) )

    In Liverpool

    Duff.

As long as they get him then I'd say a majority of Liverpool fans will be a lot happier.

United will probably get Duff or Defoe. I hope.

I read in the paper today that Duff said he wanted to play Champions League football. Headline in the Mirror "No Champions League? Thats Duff luck Liverpool".

They also said there was great chance of him coming to United now. I know its the Mirror but I can't see how a club like Liverpool can attract a player like himself without being in the Champions League.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,761 ✭✭✭Xterminator

    Re. the Duff speculation

I'd think likely Duff will give Rovers another year, unless Rovers decide to cash in on a 'silly money' bid.( 20+million bid).

I think Blackburn know replacing him would be hard, and with a fully fit Duff, they will be hoping for a shot at qualifying for the Champions League next season, (gathered from listening to Souness).

They've come a long way this season, gave a good defense of there Worthington Cup, beaten the top teams on their day (United, Arsenal etc) and played some nice footie along the way.

As for joining liverpool, I cant see it happening. He wants to play at the very top level, and Liverpool are by no means a shoe in for Champions league next year either.

In fact i belive a poor start to the season could cost Houlier his job! And as for some of his signings ....
a couple of key injuries, or loss of form can expose liverpools paper thin squad in some areas, (eg Owen's goals and the Hypia henchog partnership.)

to the poster who said CFC wud be signing anyone over 30 I think thats more like Spurs. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,188 ✭✭✭growler

i always refer to these vacuum months without the premiership as the "everyone goes somewhere else" months , as thats invariably the headline on the backpages of the tabloids.

speculating on who's out , from Chelsea I'd say either jimmy or eidur (though not both)

morris is a likely contender for a for sale sign
lambourde is a definate to liverpool
    ferrer is off

and i would not be surprised to see one of either terry or gallas depart for the right money , shame if either goes though.

doubt that CFC will spend a great deal either probably bring in one or two youngfellas.

United will probably get Duff or Defoe. I hope.

As far as i know Duff supported liverpool as a young lad so i reckon that he wont be moving to Man u.

would any of man u fans here move to liverpool regardless of CL football? i dont think so

I thought that was Robbie Keane who supported Liverpool. I heard somewhere, I think it was on tv that Duff was a Man Utd fan. Doesn't matter anyway.

And to answer your question. I would move to any club in Europe who have the chance of winning the Champions League and have winning ambitions in the competition. Be it Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal or Spartak Moscow. The money would be nice too though! :D

    Liverpool:

    In:
Duff [better chance of first team football with us than Utd.]
    Cisse
    Joe Cole
AN Other centre half [or two. Guy for Auxerre mentioned cant think of the name]

    Out:

afaik, there are about 3-4 guys outta contract [berger being one]
    Bye bye.

    Newcastle

    IN:

    Rivaldo
    Kenton
    Carrick

    Out:

    Kerr
    Lua Lua

Also I think Liverpool might go for Kenton as well. Top player for us this season and last. One of the best defenders outside the Premiership.

Kenton has joined Soton from Norwich.
Growler you were joking regarding Lambourde he's playing for Basita.

Thanks for letting me know. I knew they were after him as well but I was on the Norwich site and they had no news about it yet. Watch out for him next season coz he is a class defender.

Well moving on to the Villa outs-"if anybody will have em" the wise word of Graham Taylor himself
    OUT:
Angel, De La Cruz, Hadgi, Kinsella, Alan Wright, Ian Taylor, Bosko
    Balaban, Kackloul, Alpay

As for IN's-Dont bank on it.
Maybe some more strikers, only those over 6'5 and very strong need apply.
Next season Taylor intends on giving the youth a chance of which Villa have loads with good talent(amazingly)

so is finnan definitely joining the pool?

he said before last wknds match thay if a club in the top 4 or 5 came in for him he'd move, that "4 or 5" was interpreted to mean that liverpool could still finish in either 4th or 5th, i'd prefer carr to be honest, he's only one seaon on his contract at spurs so would be avail for a reasonable amount IMO.

Dont be so stupid. That would not effect who a player would sign for. We are talking player getting piad 70K per week, do you really think who they supported as a kid is going to matter.

Looks like Marcus Babbell will be leaving Liverpool afetr GH told him today that he is no longer part of his first team plans particularly after Babbells poor attitude displays lately

    A.C. Milan
    Ins:
    Puyol

    Outs:
    Laursen
    Rivaldo
    Costacurta

    Basically Puyol

has been linked to them all year and milan have agreed that he is a quality player who they might be interested in him.

Laursen is rubbish, spurs can have him.
Rivaldo is a great player but I cant see him being happy on the bench, he may go to a premiership team or maybe back to spain.
Costacurta will be 37 next season, i cant see a feature beyon coaching for him, the man played like a 26 year old last night and he is a legend in italian/milanise football, but i think this year could be his last glorious year.

    Another deluded LFC fan.

why the f*ck would Duff leave blackburn to play for Liverpool?
Er I think i'll leave the club i settled at and swop the uefa cup for er the uefa cup!

The bloke has stated his ambition to play in the Champions league, and nothing else will tempt him. When liverpool lost to Chelsea, they lost there chance of attracting world class players.

Liverpool's past is exactly that. Past. Gone.

DOH , i meant to say Bogarde not Lambourde would be off to the 'pool

seems like morris will sign for blackburn very soon.

anyone see ravanelli making a comeback ? old white feather was a class player, may be old enough for spurs :-)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Caesar_Bojangle

Admittedly there was little difference between the two teams when it came to the final table standings. But long term liverpool have more ambition and most importantly they're a bigger club than blackburn. They have the financial backing to challenge the top two teams in england for the premiership but surrender to incompetency at times, whereas since blackburn won the league they've been topsy turvy ever since.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭smuckers

Its all well and good saying who Liverpool should sign but do you want to hear half way through the season how it will take a year for the the new signings to settle? Believe me in the season when CFC got Frank Gallas Petit and Zenden (the biggest waste of money ever) thats what you heard coming out of Stamford Bridge.
