Does anyone know how you can get to see a Urologist? Do you need to be referred by your doctor? Will I be waiting for the rest of my life?

Generally no, not for the higher level specialities, especially if you are going to a public hospital. The usual procedure would be GP -> junior hospital doctor (JHD) -> specialist. The JHD would be working in a team with the specialist and would carry out the inital consultation / tests. Otherwise every hypochondriac would be going and wasting the time of the best (and most expensive) doctors.

If you have any reason not to talk to your GP, just go to another GP.

If it is an STI question, check your local phone book / hospital for details of a clinic. You should be able to get an appointment over the phone or show up on the day.
