Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hammers release di Canio and Bowyer
    16/05/2003 - 3:56:22 pm

Relegated West Ham announced today that they are releasing 10 senior players, including Paolo di Canio, Lee Bowyer and Nigel Winterburn.

But the Hammers, who dropped out of the Premiership on the final day of the season, have made an offer to Les Ferdinand – one of four players whose contracts had expired – according to the club’s website, www.whufc.com.

The 10 players being released are di Canio, Bowyer, Gary Breen, Eduoard Cisse - who has been on loan for a year – Clive Delaney, Izzie Iriekpen, Scott Minto, John Moncur, Raimond van der Gouw, and Nigel Winterburn.

But the Hammers want to keep Ferdinand, who scored two goals in 14 games after signing from Tottenham in January, and three other players – Scottish Under-21 midfielder David Noble, Ireland youth international midfielder Daryl McMahon and England Under-21 keeper Steve Bywater.

    Who'll go where ... Di Canio , Bowyer , Breen anyone ????

Liverpool could go for Bowyer. They had interest in him last year but he was asking for too much in wages. Maybe now that he's free, they'll try and sign him. He's just what 'pool need on the right.
Di Canio will probably be signed by one of the newly promoted teams to the premiership.
Can't see any of the others being snapped up though.

I bet Mick Mc Carthy will sign Gary Breen. Bowyer and Di Canio should find clubs no bother Minto and Moncur will probably find a club in lower premiership, upper first division. Winterburn and Van Der Gouw should retire. I don't know enough about the other players mentioned but there are alot of free agents on the market this summer so it wont be easy to find clubs.

Looks like they could be trying to keep the big three of cole carrick and defoe? im sure with the wages of those 10 players off the books they could manage to keep them.

Cant see Di Canio signing for any big club. He should have took his chance on Utd when he had it. Bowyer; I doubt will be left without a club. Liverpool could be one club going in for him. his wages were high the last time but with Babbell (one of the biggest wages at Liverpool) leaving it could well open up for Bowyer. Otherwise he'll end up at a middle of table club

Disappointing to see two Irish players being released. But to be honest, Im not surprised that Breen was released ... considering his form at club level this season. Although given his preformances at international level, Im sure he wont be without a club for too long.

    My predictions

Paolo di Canio - to Portsmouth

    Lee Bowyer - to Tottenham

    Gary Breen - to Everton

    Clive Delaney - to Shelbourne

John Moncur - to 1st div club

    ----

not released but to be sold in my opinion:

    Kanoute - to Liverpool

    Joe Cole - to Newcastle

    Michael Carrick - to Liverpool

    Trevor Sinclair - to Leeds

    David James - to Blackburn
    (after Friedel goes to Arsenal)

    Jermaine Defoe - to Arsenal
