    Can I take a licensed product I was given with a computer and give it to another person/computer if I intend on uninstalling it fully from the original computer?

    Transferring the license basically

    keeping it fully above bord

    Yes, sometimes. You have to check the license agreement you "accepted".

    If the licence is an OEM (original Manufacturer Licence) this licwence cannot be taken off the original PC, you can sell it on with teh pc , but you cannot remove it from the pc and sell it on, if you have a Fully Packaged Product you can remove this and sell it on.

    M$ have made Licensing is a total mindf**k especially since they keep moving the goal posts..

    In this months issue of compuscope there is an article listing M$ six different volume licensing schemes - each has it's own discount levels and terms and conditions... and the terms change each time you renew.... And then there are version upgrades / competitive upgrades / value upgrades etc. etc..

    Eg: Historically it was cheaper to buy works and then get office standard upgrade than it was to get Excel by itself ...

    Guess what - for a lot of stuff we are taking a seventh option - upgrading the OEM version of Office to a Std Version - it's the only way we can make some use of the "investment" in software..

    Since the OEM stuff can't be moved to a different PC it makes commercial sense to look at chucking lots of ram and processor upgrades into older machines !!!

    The newer corporate licencing schemes will make it illegal to even leave the Software on the machine after the rental period has expired - never mind porting it......

    Bottom line
    Because you agree to the terms & conditions you have no legal rights when it comes to software.
    (OK you are allowed uder Irish law to take a backup of the original media AFAIK and if they send you a defective CD you are entitled to another equally defective CD in the first 30 days)
