    Argos actively seeking Cavan location

    by Sean McMahon
    (Thu, May 15 03)

ARGOS, the UK and Irish Based general retailer is planning a
massive expansion drive in this country and is set to open an
additional 15 stores over three years. The Anglo Celt has learned
this week that Argos is actively seeking a location to open a §2.5
million state of the art 10,000 square feet complex in Cavan. It is
expected that the store will employ around 25 people.

The Head of Lambert Smith Hampton Estate Agents, Fintan
Tierney, who is tasked with locating suitable sites for Argos, told
The Anglo Celt that they are looking at various options on the
Cavan scene. A green field site option has not yet been ruled in
or out. Mr Tierney said that they hoped to have settled on a
    suitable

location in Cavan by the end of the summer. He revealed that
Cavan was a central location and it was envisaged that the new
complex would attract customers from Monaghan and Enniskillen.

Selling electrical goods, furniture, toys, jewellery and fitness
products, Argos have established a reputation for keen pricing
and have enjoyed rapid growth in recent years.

There is also intense speculation in Cavan this week that another
German retail chain is planning to locate at Dublin Road, Cavan.
The Anglo Celt understands that terms have been agreed in
principle to purchase a site for around §0.75million, subject to
    planning permission.

Yeah, its great to see Cavan attracting all sorts of businesses like that. No one would have dreamt about it ten years ago. Not so long ago the Kilmore Hotel was a good couple of kilometers away from anything at all. Now business has built up right beside it. Still doesn't make up for us losing to Antrim yesterday though. :D
