    read this in todays indo:

SIGNIFICANT cuts in train journey times have been announced by Iarnrod Eireann in their new InterCity timetable.

New InterCity and Dart/Commuter timetables come into effect from next Tuesday, June 3, until December 13 and will deliver journey time savings to InterCity passengers on routes to and from Dublin.

The new journey time reductions are as a result of investment in track renewal on the network, the completion of major phases of the €117m redevelopment of Heuston Station and improved connections on some routes.

Iarnrod Eireann is promising more improvements in December due to the new fleet of 80 commuter railcars which will be introduced later this year on commuter routes.

Passengers on the Dublin/Cork route can enjoy ten minutes less in their journey times, while 15-20 minutes will be shaved off journey times on the Dublin/Westport route.

The Dublin/Galway journey will take 15 minutes less, Dublin/Limerick 10-15 minutes less and Dublin/Tralee 12-15 minutes less.

with a timetable that is still based on the needs of a Victorian, agrarian Ireland with a train at Breakfast, Lunchtime and Teatime and then the rail network returns to its peaceful slumber as the millions spent on track renewal and the new rolling stock keep the staus quo and nothing else - the stagnated muppets at Irish Rail management decided that higher-train frequency or late trains is not going to happen becuse they might have to change their ways. Beside like Naomi Cambell, they can't get out of bed in the morning or have an innovated idea for less than €1,000,000.

Irish Rail managment - where traditional ways and the quite pace of the past is kept alive and YOU the gullible taxpayers are expected to fund their easy-going work/lifestyle options for all eternity.

Ha-some of the wexford/dublin services have a slightly longer journey time on the new timetable. Interestingly the guide IE produced for the special olympics states that "Wexford is a charming town in the Sunny South East, only 2 hours on one of Ireland most scenic rail routes".

    I wish...

The main points of the FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL, SENSATIONAL, SINGING AND DANCING RAIL TIMETABLE:

Only two additional intercity services added to the timetable
    1010 Cork-Mallow service (weekdays) - connects into 0830 Dublin-Tralee)
1410 Waterford-Dublin service (Saturdays in July and August) operating via Lavistown curve (operated as ecs in 2002)

No major changes in service patterns

All Intercity services operating out of Dublin Heuston have been accelerated by 10-15 minutes following the completion of the re-modelling of the station. But in many cases trains are still not operating as quickly between Dublin and Cork or Limerick as in 2000 before the remodelling commenced.

Speed restrictions remain between Mallow and Tralee – trains take a minimum of 1 hour 40 minutes to complete this trip – It was 10 minutes faster in the mid-1990s.

Limerick-Rosslare services see no major change over 2002.

No major change between Limerick and Ballybrophy

The stock off the 1630 (FO) Dublin-Waterford still returns empty

This is typically of the Muppeteering at Irish Rail. All it would take to resolve this issue would be to use Platform 2 at Galway but NO.... they don't, won;t explain why not, and if somebody mentions this they would ask for €70 million to sort it out - and the unions are going on strike to protect this so called rail comapny from the evils of privatisation when all the worst case scenarios regarding privatisation are already standard operating practice at Irish Rail. It's beyond a joke - it really is.

Anyway, the 1350 SUN Dublin-Galway service is scheduled to arrive at Galway at 1621, having departed Athenry at 1600. However, a train is shown departing Galway at 1615, 6 minutes before the other train arrives. One can only assume that the inbound service pulls into the carriage siding, awaits the departure of the outbound service, reverses, and then pulls into the platform allowing the passengers to disembark.

This is the case unless this is a typo and it should read 1612 and IE is using the normally unused platform 2! But would this be too logical?

Remeber now according to Joe Meagher of Irish Rail they have 'World Class' timetable people at Irish Rail.

it's official, most trains were faster before the CWR track was installed. This is sickening:

Shocking waste of tax payers money and it all covered up with spoofery and spin from the boys at Hueston Station.

What was that CIE unions were saying about private operators not running railways in the public interest?
