This one's a hoot when you think about it. The Irish Internet Association continues to keep a low profile on the comms and Internet front, but the farmers are out in the streets shouting "Fock this for a game of soldiers, let's set up our own telco! Wahey!"

The Irish Examiner reports that the Irish Farmers Association has entered the telecommunications business. IFA Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of the IFA, aims to bring the benefits of competition in the telecoms sector to Irish farmers. The company says it aims to provide low-cost home and business phone services to the IFA's 85,000 members.

Speaking of muppetry, there's also this item on the same page:
The paper also reports that Esat BT is in exclusive talks with Hutchison 3G Ireland for a EUR100 million contract to build a 3G network in the Republic. Esat BT has beaten off competition for the deal from local and international firms such as Eircom and Flextronics. A formal contract could be signed later this week.
Let's hope they're not handling the billing too, eh? ;)
