We've asked Eircom for additional capacity to handle the traffic

If any netsource guys are listening, any news on this

Yeah I'd love to know too, have been connected since Monday and the only time I can get their advertised speed is at 3am in the morning. The rest of the time even my bloody 56k is faster

I'd be interested in this too. I got the self install pack today and If I hadn't tried it at about 6pm I have been convinced there was something wrong with the connection. It was downloading at 27kb for a while but then dropped down to 3k :(

I hope there is a drastic improvement this week. I got it purely for gaming and my ping is the highest and most erratic 99% of the time in gamespy. I get 300 and it fluctuates like mad.

According to a few line tests on various sites this evening my speed is ~ 60 Kbps. At 6.30 pm it was a lot quicker.

    not happy

Has anyone been getting alot of disconnects lately ?
I have had 3 disconnects so far today in 24hrs.
1st one was at 3am and needed a reboot of router to connect many hours later.
2nd was at 6pm where connection to web was gone but logged in as connected.
3rd was a simple disconnect at 11:40pm just now :(
Hope this is not a trend and things are getting ironed out behind the scenes like the extra bandwidth thing :):)

Netsource: I just ran the www.bandwithplace.com test twice. 11.55pm and 1159pm.

    Result: 66.8 kilobits/sec and 69.3 kilobits/sec.

Is this broadband I'm paying for ?

that sounds similar, exact same performance here

Yes I got disconnected twice this evening. Well actually my router still was able to connect but I was not able to ping anything on the internet or browse the internet, but I was connecting and getting an IP from Netsource. Attached is a ping program screenshot, I left the program running as I got my dinner. When i started it, my connection had died, but somehow came back to life and was super for a few minutes (as if lots of ppl were disconnected, and then as time went on, more and more connected and performance went back to normal. Ie '$hit')

Has your connection improved since you posted the above message?
I'm very interested in the results as myself and my housemates are on the brink of ordering netsource RADSL, but that will be subject to usactually getting a proper speed with low latency.
We're living in Galway though, so we might be out of the woods for a while longer yet.

thomasb, if you are still following this tread, lets be clear about something, if this service does not drastically improve soon you are going to loose a lot of customers and a lot of people who might have gone with you will be going with the competition .

Why pay for a First class plane ticket if you are flying on the wing!

I'm with MrB on this. I don't want to be wasting my money on something this slow.

I think everyone would be of more or less the same opinion, why pay over the odds for something you can get faster and cheaper elsewhere.

    I agree.
I've already advised the guys at work not to go for netsource.

What does the statement "the bottle neck is with eircom" actually mean. Will the increased connectivity really solve the issue ? Can you elaborate please Thomas.

If I am still getting 300 pings next week I am outta there. Its the same as being on a 56k dialup ! If this is what Netsource consider an acceptable "broadband" service ?

Its a shame, I liked the idea of an uncapped service and a way not to give irk'em a penny more than I had to. I might go with esat now that they are starting to roll out in my area...

the plot thickens, any word Netsource

It looks for the most part like IOL is going to make a pretty penny out of the Netsource fallout.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭fisty

I have told a few mates who were interested not to get it because of the insane ptings people are posting here.
I would advise netsource to get this sorted quick, otherwise your ship is gonna sink.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,333 ✭✭✭Dr Bolouswki

Well... thank god I saw this thread...

I've spent the last two weeks getting line tests, line of sight tests - anything to get a reasonably priced uncapped service. Had totally set my mind on Netsource and now... this.

Well - change of plan so. Does anyone have a good experience of Netsource?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭BArra

yeah, the people on the exchanges with less users have a great service, but as previously stipulated, once more users get on, the service will degrade, unless netsource get in their promosied bandwidth

if this is an eircom problem and their own services are fine, u cant help but think this is eircom again trying to sabotage things for NS?

    who knows :/

In most ways Netsource are a great company, good support, friendly genuinely helpful sales people, the non-RADSL service seems to be rock steady. But RADSL latency and download speeds spoil things :( If they could get this problem sorted I would have no problem recommending them to anyone (and some of my mates are looking to get DSL soon)!

Just noticed this on their site
    Customer Notification - 30th May 2003
Due to a network re-configuration, there will be a short outage this afternoon (Friday 30th May 2003) for SOHO DSL customers only for up to a maxium of 30 mins. However, we expect the outage to last for only 5 mins.

If you wish to receive email notification of any future outages, please send your name and email address to support@netsoure.ie using a subject line of
    "RE: [netsource.ie #1278] - SOHO contact".

Netsource apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
