Can anyone recommend a decent anti-spam software package?

Thanks

1. What software you using?
2. Do you have access to the server to configure the anti spam stuff there?

If it's a unix box either install spam assassin or get the admins to do it, then setup procmail to use that.

If you're using Eudora put "eudora anti spam" into google on of the first links is an anti-spam filter.

Most mail servers have add-on anti-spam packages too, but they are generally specifec so you'll have to search for them.

If you are using web-based mail like hotmail etc, tough luck.

If all else failed just setup your own filters to delete everything with the following words/phrases
"Increase your penis size"
"Increase your breast size"
"Make money from home"
"Free XXX porn"
"From: <anything>@hotmail" - tell your friends to use something else.

I think having your mail run through a box with some sort of anti spam filter installed is probably the best solution for users, particularly if they don't have much in the way of technical knowledge.

I have been mucking about with various methods such as mailwasher and adding rules to my email client PocoMail (which does a great job, but isn't much use for company wide solutions etc).

I've just installed SpamAsassin on a couple of boxes here and I have to say it's working very well.

Isn't Winroute a firewall jobbie bailey?
Do you have your own mailserver or is it a hosted service?

just another note, if you had to recommend an anti-spam software package that you had to pay for for use in a commercial setting - would this change your opinion

We use Spam Assasin with Vipul's razor and a few other enhancements for all our shared customers. The entire thing is tied together by the MailScanner which also blocks dodgy content.
