I'm looking at two different laptops. One has a standard "Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics" card and the other has the GeForce4 card. The thing is the latter is gona cost alot of dough whereas the first one is cheaper.

I was thinking of getting the cheaper one and then buying a decent card.

But is it possible to change the cards in the laptop?

    Whats involved?

    Thanx in advance peoples

It is not possible, that laptop with the geforce card is also integrated ... there are no agp slots or pci slots in a laptop ... if there is then its going to be some size of a machine... wouldnt really be a laptop anymore

I thought ATI made the actual chips the same size, so that an upgrade actually was possible.....

I've been researching laptops and it is possible to upgrade graphics cards but the graphics card has to compatible! I think you can upgrade from a 16MB card to a 32MB card but not from a 32MB to a 64MB card(which you need for games)
Look up dell and they show you how to upgrade their machines with compatible graphics cards.

The two mentioned above were intel and nvidia .... in current laptops there are a lot of fcbga (flip chip ball grid array) type chips ...these have the pins under the chip, there is no way to lift them (in the home anyway, maybe big manufacturers have some specialist tools to do it).... I'm not sure if they do graphics chips in this fashion but I assume that they do because it uses much less real estate on the pcb, which is always at a premium inside laptops...

Gabogalway; could you post a url showing that, I wouldnt fancy cracking open my laptop to try to change video ram
