If I think about it as a Metallica album, it's bad

gotta agree wit ya. ive been waiting 18 months for this album :D ...all the sites n mags said it would be there best album to date etc. etc., usual bulls**t ... got it ... listened to da first 10 seconds :(... and my heart jus sank. i was expectin some top class metallica tracks n what i got was wat a friend has defined as "linkin park mixed with a really really bad imitation of S.O.A.D. " ! , even most of the nu-metal kids ive been talkn to in temple bar think that by standards of a metallica album... it sux!

I STOLE a copy of St anger because i didnt want to give that F**K Ulrich any more money than he deserves for being a crap drummer, ha ha Ulrich, i just cost YOU 20 quid! You GIMP!
Anywho, anyone who says St Anger isnt nu metal is just an old skool fan trying to convince themselves.."no, no..metallica didnt go ****, they just...uhh..evolved, yeah, thats right!" Bollocks, It could be the new korn album (only that would prolly be better, and have better drumming) Its by the numbers nu-metal, like load was by the numbers wannabe grunge. Sell outs, Sell outs, Sell outs. And in case you think im some nu metal loving mini rocker, im 23 and have been listening to metallica since i was 10, which is why this saddens me.
I think its ironic, the very bands who were paying tribute to metallica at the MTVicon, are the very bands metallica are now ripping off.

I just got the album today, and I am very dissapointed, its just utter ****e, forget about the nu-metal comparissions (though thry are glaring, the "flush it out" bit in St. Anger itself is particularily terrible), its just a very average album, which (as mentioned before) by Metallia standards is crap.

The drum sound is just so crap, the guitar sound is pretty bad, but the drums are just so awful, theres a bit in the third track ("some kind of monster") where the drums are on their own behind James's singing and they sound so hollow, its the kind of thing that you expect from a demo production, after the kind of full sound they had on, say, the black album.....this is such a step backward. The drums sound like paper all the time, that snare is a joke.

The lack of solos is also ****ty too, there's no denying that songs like One, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman, Fade to Black etc all had solo's as their high points, the solo was the real cresendo, can you imagine hearing "One" live and stopping after the double-bass bit!!! That would be a tradgety.

If I find out for definete that when they come to Dublin that they aren't going to play any solos, they my tickets for sale, I'd rather remember them how they were then the embarrasment they have become.

Anyway, thats my two cents, I really think its time Metallia broke up, they are just becoming a joke...........

OK been a 'Tallica fan for quite a while and I've just received the album today thanks to CDWOW.

First impressions I thought it was weak tbh but after listening to some of the songs a few times they are growing on me. Not classic Metallica like Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets but I think its still quite good.

As for the live concert they are without doubt the best band I have seen live (and I've seen them 3 times so far in concert in Ireland) :)

    Gandalf.

I received the album yesterday (€12.50ish from Play.com ;) ) but I also must admit its poor. I've only listened to it once, but unlike previous Metallica material, I'm not eager to hear it again! :(

In hindsight, I probably would have been better spending the money on getting one of their classic albums on CD (since most I have are on cassette :( )

I got their album on Thursday, haven't listened to it since, it's very bad compared to even Reload. I didn't decect any nu metal at all, the closest to it was probably the "flush it out" thing on st. anger. I really don't think this album is selling out, the black album IMO was much more of a sell-out commercial thing than this.
The vocals and guitar in particular sound really terrible, even the live DVD sounded much better IMO lol. It really is a pity that there are no solos, there's barely even lead guitar, it's such a waste of their amazing talent.
But, on a happier note, that Rock Am Ring show was totally brilliant, I even watched the repeat straight afterwards. They can all still play extremely well without Jason ( but kirk and robert cant sing for ****). I'd say Bob Rock is probably their main problem, they should really try and get the hell away from that guy, all their albums before he latched on were masterpieces, then the black album kinda ruined them.

A mate of mine mentioned something interesting to me today.

Lars is quoted as saying that this isn't really a "commercial" album. Then my mate pointed out that perhaps they're just having some fun for once? Rather then churning out another ball-breaking album and saying "f*ck it"

    I dunno

The album is growing on me I must say, and listening to some of the lyrics in, say, "Some Kind of Monster" there's some subtle mentions to the band and how people have vilified them for the past 'n' number of years.

If they released another rehash of their earlier albums, they'd be selling out to get the "guaraunteed old skool". If they make something else, they're beratted.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

    Hmmmm. Interesting.
