Having a bit of trouble with it since i got it every download i attempt it gets to the point where it says "connecting to pears" but it sits idle and does nothing can anyone shed any light on this?

What speed is your internet connection.
Bit torrent isn't really much good unless you have a 256+ outgoing connection, as your download rate is decided based on how much you can share with other users,
even on 512/128, you're not going to get great download speeds from it
