    Right guys, it's up.

Somewhere to put and get notes for all or most of the Leaving Cert subjects.

Just as soon as there are enough links :).

So current, past, future LC students, I need everyone to make their way over to

    www.leaving-cert.net

and give me your notes, and all your best resource links.

Tis my first real site, so be gentle :)

Ya, I don't expect it to become overly busy/popular until around christmas this year. But before then, it would be nice to have a decent little collection of notes.

If at all possible, it would be better to submit links to documents (upload it to your boards webspace maybe?) to save on my bandwidth - tis not free ye know :). Hence the 10kb limit. That's a just a limit until I get a good feel for the kind of demand there is :)

I actually thought of it well in time for this year's LC, but being in college, I couldn't write it until I finished college, which was like a month ago. Then I arsed around for 3 weeks before writing it :) Sorry.

i dont think this link stuff is a good idea, cos ppl can lose their free webspcae very easily if they're inactive...... I'd back up everything on those links on my HD if i was u seamus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Right, c'mon, I need your links. Now that ye're finished you can submit all your notes to me. NOW! :p

Once I set up my scanner, and get OCR or similar working, I'll try to get in notes for every chapter in physics and chemistry, plus key concets in app maths.

Great site. just one suggestion, white writing on a black background doesnt look great and is kind of straining on the eyes. try black writing on a light background.

Heh, I've had a few comments either way on it, and it seems to be purely a preference thing. I find white writing on a black background much easier to read, and far easier on the eyes than black writing on a white background.

So, eh, it's staying like that for the moment :)
I've been meaning to get back to it very soon though, and skins would be high on the development list :)

So yeah, finally, I've gotten around to doing some tinkering.

So I've integrated phpBB forums into the site, after one or two people said it needed more to keep people there. There are some changes to make note of - mainly that only registered users can now add links and uploads to the site. This increases the quality of the links, and protects the site from abuse. Unregistered users are still free to view these links.

Before the end of this month, i.e. over the rest of this week, I hope to integrate into the member system, a rating system for the links, and a facility where members can choose their personal subjects, so you don't have to keep skimming through the full list every time.
I'll have a look at email or PM notification when a new link is posted too.

Go forth and spam, since all good boards are built on a foundation of time wasting. And test it out. It's probably buggy as hell.

    :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

OK, registered users can now subscribe to their chosen subjects, so you don't need to wade through all of the subjects any longer to find yours. Log in, click on the subject level, and click "subscribe to this subject" and Hey Presto!
The rating system is also up and running. Each user can rate a link once, so make it a good one.

These are both probably buggy as hell, so I've no idea how long they'll stand up under prolonged usage, but I'm always up for a challenge. Of course, if you see anything remotely weird happening, or something that you think could be done better, let me know.

a good idea (but a bit late now) would be to have sacnned up all the exam and sample papers.

examinations.ie only go back to 2001 which is woeful. Basically for anyone who missed the opportunity to buy exam papers it'd be a good resource for them.

The SEC may only have 2003,2002,2001 online, but if you go to the Department of Education and Science they go all the way to 1999. Since alot of the courses have been reformed since then, it's fairly adequate.

I'm not sure about any copyright issues, but you could probably just link directly to the downloads for each of the papers, along with the marking schemes (all available from either the SEC or the Department websites). They're quite large PDFs (around 1MB each for the bigger ones), so might not be feasible to host them.
