Just a quick question. Does anyone know what instrument is used on the intro to this tune by The Who? It's played amazingly fast and sounds a bit like a synth but its too 'human' (for lack of a better word) to be so. As such I thought it might be some kind of weird piano/harpsicord that no-ones ever heard of.

    Anyone know the answer?

The intro is a synth which also pops up on "Wont Get Fooled Again" in the lengthy middle section.

Townshend was one of the first established rockers to see the potential for synths, esp when used in sequnceing such as on the Whos Next album.

I recall a documentary which shows this huge modular synth the size of a wall, which you built up using modules connected to a sequencer
on which the patterns were triggered and recorded.

Early modular synths look and be awed!

edit! To answer your question, the synth that was used on Baba O Riley
    was proberly the Arp 2500.
