    Hi,
This kinda follows on to the previous 'value' gaming pc thread, this time I'm interested in building a fast machine for about 800-1000 Euros. The hd and monitor are covered but I'm looking for the best bang for the buck, as they say, for the rest of the sytem.
    Any input is appreciated...

You should still have a good bit of money left over and can get the rest, such as a Heatsink/fan, case with PSU, Soundcard (If necessary) Floppy Drive Etc

I presume you have a mouse and keyboard?

What about a Pentium system? Seem to be taking the lead these days...

Ah well, no. I cant tell you much about that.

But I still reccomend you buy an Athlon, its cheaper and you wont really need a P4 3.06 ghz processor just yet.

You have a good choice of cheap upgrades in the future.

If you really want massive power which coupled with that graphics Card, is quite unnecessary then get a XP3000+ (Barton) But expect to pay about 300 euro from komplett.

A 3200+ is 530 euro. Too Expensive if you ask me.

If you want something in between, have a look at a 2800+ for about 200 euro

You can't really get a 'value' Pentium system. If money isn't a concern then a top of the range Pentium will prolly be a bit better that the best AMD. But if you're on a budget, no matter what Pentium you pick out, you can get a faster AMD for the equivalent price.

Well, there is always the posibility of getting stuff from ebay, or the boards... will dramatically reduce the price. In fact, whatever I get, I'll try to get second hand.
For an AMD system, looks like I'll be going for an nforce 2 mobo. Whats the highest speed ram these take?
And what kind of ram should I go for, does the higher speeds eg 2700 or 3200, make much of a difference?
For the cpu, would there be advantages in getting a barton core?

Money will be pretty tight, I'll have to get everything for the system except hd, screen, mouse and keyboard.
