I hope to have a projector for home cinema shortly. I'm going to need a seperate tv tuner for it. My question is do the tuners sold in the UK work for irish tv frequencies?

Can anyone suggest a good tuner to buy?

It depends on where you live.

RTÉ 1 and Network 2 are broadcast in VHF in some parts of the country and UHF in others. TV3 & TG4 are broadcast in UHF throughout the Republic.

The UK uses UHF only so you need to determine if you are receiving RTE on VHF or UHF. If it's UHF then any UK tuner will work, if VHF then ensure that the tuner can handle VHF frequencies too.

Ok. I'm in Dublin city - getting tv from NTL (analogue).

Do you happen to know which that'll be on?

    byte

NTL uses VHF so you'll need to make sure the Tuner has VHF or is Hyperband

As a general guide, most UK TVs don't have a VHF/Band I/Band III tuner. They dont need it anymore, last Band III broadcasts in the UK were in 1985. And as byte says, you'll need to have one in order to watch analogue NTL cable in Dublin.
