TNT has ordered a pilot for a Let The Right One In TV series, based on the best-selling novel by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist. Jeff Davis (“Criminal Minds,” “Teen Wolf”) wrote the script for the pilot and serves as executive producer with Marty Adelstein (“Aquarius,” “Prison Break,” “Teen Wolf”) and Becky Clements (“Aquarius,” “Last Man Standing”) of Tomorrow Studios and Simon Oakes (Women in Black, Let Me In) of Hammer Films. Carl Molinder, who produced the original screenplay, and Alex Brunner (Dark Places) also serve as executive producers. The pilot is being produced by Tomorrow Studios in association with Turner’s Studio T, the in-house studio that owns and produces original series for TNT and TBS.

Let the Right One In is an eerie drama about a young boy, long tormented by his classmates, who finds solace in a friendship with a charismatic female vampire who appears to be near his age. The vampire settles into the boy’s small Vermont town with her mysterious caretaker, just as a series of bizarre murders begins attracting the attention of law enforcement.

    Warrior

Bruce Lee-Inspired Crime Drama ‘Warrior’ From Justin Lin & ‘Banshee’ Co-Creator Gets Cinemax Pilot Order
Cinemax has given a pilot order to Warrior, a crime drama based on original material written by Bruce Lee. Warrior has been a passion project for both the late martial arts icon and Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin who is executive producing the pilot with an eye to direct. The pilot was written by Jonathan Tropper, co-creator of Banshee, Cinemax’s first homegrown primetime drama hit.

Set against the backdrop of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the aftermath of the Civil War, Warrior tells the story of a young martial arts prodigy, newly arrived from China, who finds himself caught up in the bloody Chinatown Tong wars.

In 2013, Lin’s company partnered with Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, and Bruce Lee Enterprises to turn Lee’s material into a TV series.

Bruce Lee had spent many years working on Warrior, but it was never published or produced. Years after the Enter The Dragon actor’s sudden 1973 death at age 32, his daughter found a large collection of handwritten notes that Bruce wrote himself on the concept for the series that became the inspiration for the show. Perfect Storm Entertainment and Shannon Lee brought the idea to Cinemax in spring 2015, with Tropper coming on board as writer/executive producer.

    Start Up

ABC Nabs ‘Start Up’ Comedy Starring & Directed By Zach Braff
Scrubs star Zach Braff is returning to series television and to ABC as the star of Start Up, a single-camera comedy, which has received a put pilot commitment. Braff, who also is set to direct, is reuniting with Scrubs co-executive producer Matt Tarses on the Sony TV/Davis Entertainment project, which ABC landed in a competitive situation with multiple networks pursuing.

Written by Tarses, Start Up is based on the podcast Start Up by Alex Blumberg. It is a show about all the things that happen — the good, the bad and the ugly — when a guy (Braff) in his mid-30s with a wife and two kids makes the crazy decision to quit his good job and dive into the brave new world of starting a business. (The title of the comedy will likely change as it matches the name of a new Crackle drama series.)

    Waco

Michael Shannon and Taylor Kitsch Starring in ‘Waco’ Miniseries Based on 1993 Siege
In February of 1993, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) initiated a raid of the Branch Davidians ranch in Waco Texas. Led by David Koresh, the Branch Davidians were a subset of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and had operated their organization out of Waco since 1955. The ATF suspected the group of weapons violations and soon the raid quickly escalated into a shootout and a 51 day standoff, culminating in a fire that killed almost 80 of the group’s members on April 19, 1993. Now, Weinstein Television has announced that they are developing an event series based on the harrowing tale with Michael Shannon (“Midnight Special”) and Taylor Kitsch (“Friday Night Lights”), playing lead FBI negotiator Gary Noesener and Koresh respectively.

The series will be written by brothers John Erick and Drew Dowdle, who have previously collaborated on the horror films “Quarantine” and “As Above, So Below,” as well the recent action film “No Escape.” John Erick Dowdle will direct the series. It will be largely based on two biographies: “A Place Called Waco” by Branch Davidian David Thibodeau, one of the nine survivors of the final fire, and “Sinful Messiah,” written by the FBI negotiator Gary Noesner. It will explore the true-life events leading up to the siege and chronicle the 51-day standoff and will be told from several perspectives from both sides of the conflict. The Weinstein Company are expected to shop the series out to networks next month.

    The White Rabbit Project

‘Mythbusters’ 2.0? Grant Imahara, Tory Belleci and Kari Byron’s ‘The White Rabbit Project’ Headed to Netflix
Grant Imahara, Tory Belleci and Kari Byron (AKA the Build Team) are headed to Netflix with a new venture. Described by the trio as “Mythbusters in Wonderland,” “The White Rabbit Project” will debut on the streaming platform later this year.

According to Nerdist, the title comes from the fact this new show will center around the oddities you might encounter when you ‘go down the rabbit hole on the internet.’ A quick teaser was shown at Dragon Con, where the announcement was made, featuring Belleci and Byron attempting to enjoy a glass of wine — only one of them is “strapped up to a bunch of wires” while the other is “attempting to control his arm movements remotely.”

Few other concrete details have been divulged, including the precise nature of Imahara, Belleci and Byron’s involvement or how many episodes are expected, though “The White Rabbit Project” does have a release date: December 9 on Netflix.

I thought the pilot, despite having normal pilot type issues, had loads of potential. And Peter Serafenowicz (sp?) absolutely nailed The Tick. Looking forward to it.

    Lodge 49

AMC Orders Drama Series ‘Lodge 49’ Produced By Paul Giamatti
EXCLUSIVE: AMC has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order to drama Lodge 49, from creator Jim Gavin, showrunner Peter Ocko and executive producer Paul Giamatti.

Lodge 49 — about a young knucklehead from Long Beach who joins a dusty old fraternal lodge — was one of three drama projects AMC identified in spring 2015 for potential straight-to-series orders, along with The Son and Goliath. All opened writers rooms and produced scripts. Of the three, The Son advanced to the next stage, landing a straight-to-series order, though AMC brass felt there was enough of a promise in Lodge 49 to take another stab, bringing in an experienced showrunner in Ocko and going through the process again by setting up a new writers room this past spring.

Written and created by Gavin, Lodge 49 is described as a modern fable set in Long Beach. It centers on Dud, a deadbeat but charming ex-surfer who joins a fraternal order hoping to reclaim the simple, happy lifestyle he lost when his father died. Through the Lodge and his newfound connection with the other members, Dud will come to find the missing sense of purpose in his life and confront his deepest fears and greatest hopes. Other key characters in the series include Liz Dudley, Dud’s twin sister and Ernie Fontaine, a middle-aged African American and long-time lodge member who welcomes him into this mysterious new world.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind coming to TV.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the tearjerking, hugely-inventive 2004 classic in which Kate Winslet managed to give the most lived-in Manic Pixie Dream Girl performance of all time, is now becoming a TV series. As film-to-TV reboots go, this is one of the less-expected entries in that dubious canon.

    Porridge

BBC One Picks Up ‘Porridge’ Sequel For Full Series
A little more than a month after the one-off sequel to the classic series aired as part of the BBC’s Landmark Comedy Season, BBC One has handed out a six episode series order to the project.

Set in the modern day, the new Porridge follows Nigel ‘Fletch’ Fletcher (Kevin Bishop), the grandson of Ronnie Barker’s Norman Fletcher, as he is banged up in Wakeley Prison for a series of cyber-crimes. The one-off episode/backdoor-pilot was penned by original series creators Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, who are returning to pen the six new episodes. “We’re in a state of disbelief that Porridge is coming back after all these years, but Kevin Bishop is a worthy successor to Ronnie Barker. So even though we feel like recidivists, we’re more than happy to go back inside.”

At present the only cast member confirmed to be returning for the full series is Kevin Bishop as Fletch, with the BBC stating that further casting will be confirmed at a later date. Cast members from the one-off also included Mark Bonnar as Officer Meekie, Ralph Ineson as Richie Weeks, Dave Hill as Joe Lotterby, Dominic Coleman as Officer Braithwaite, Harman Singh as Aziz, Jason Barnett as Shel and Ricky Grover as Scudds.

“It was an honour to be asked to play Fletch although I never thought it would go further than just the one off homage”, Kevin Bishop said in a statement confirming that he would reprise his role in the show’s first season “To be welcomed back by Porridge fans and the BBC to make a full series, is one of the proudest moments in my career. Dick and Ian are true sitcom masters and I know they’re going to write a brilliant series.”
