They shouldn't need the Bic the IBAN contains enough to set up a DD

On a recent trip to Spain, the N26 Black which had most of my money for trip, worked once, then no more for 5 days either with NFC or PIN, gas stations, restaurants, hotels. Luckily I had backup card. Then it worked once again before I left Spain.

Positive I had to transfer money out of N26, which I did in app at 15.00 hrs on Sunday and surprise , surprise :eek: it was on my BOI current account the following morning. I emailed N26 about the problem and to date no answer.

Chapter 2; This morning bought a flight ticket on airline site, (funds in account) 2 hours later refusal email from airline. I get popup from app saying payment declined on my Lock Screen , BUT when I unlock phone screen there is no message Where do these messages from N26 app go ? Are they not anywhere on phone?

Apparently I'm locked into 12 month contract for N26 Black, despite sh1tty service and support.

    🧐IMHO, God wants us all to ENJOY many,many ice-creams , 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦

You have a 14 day cooling off period, so if it's not too long ago that you converted to black you can cancel it.

Mine arrived today, was starting to get worried for a second!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭soirish

New card still hasn't arrived. It has to be activated by 20 Dec or N26 will terminate the account.
Reminder: you must activate your card by 20 December 2016 to continue using N26. Your entire in-app experience will remain the same.

Meanwhile they sent an email to suggest delivery will take longer :(
Since we’re producing and sending so many cards at the moment, delivery of your card may take a bit longer than usual. But if you haven’t received your card yet, don’t worry: we’ve received your order, and your card will be shipped to you just as soon as possible.

Ordered my card on 10th Nov and still hasn't arrived. Have sent them a couple of messages on social media but haven't had a reply to any of them.

Now in 17 countries so I would expect support to be under even more pressure

I finally received my card today, after waiting for almost..5 weeks (since 4th November)!
So you can still hope it will arrive..

You should probably contact support via chat or phone, this is the only way to get some information as to when you card was actually sent.

The new cards seemingly need to be activated at an ATM before they can be used, N26 failed to mention that....

I found this out the hard way today....

If I wasn't a long standing customer, I would never have known to use an ATM to get the offline pin loaded onto the chip.

According to the new price list we also get only 5 monthly ATM withdrawals for free..

Customers with primary delivery address outside Germany:
5 free ATM withdrawals per calendar month, 2.00 € per additional withdrawal.

Also, for customers in Italy,Spain and France they seem to introduce a minimum usage requirement for the Mastercard in order to avoid paying the 2.90 euro per month, after 1st February.

For Ireland they keep the 2.90 euro per month for the (optional) Mastercard, for new customers after 1st February..

Literally spent about 6 hours today trying to verify myself, kept getting cut off Network error when it was my turn. Does anyone here use this as their day to day bank?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,097 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

200,000 customers already is pretty impressive

Be interested in who plans to use this as their main bank as well, far cheaper in charges than Irish banks

Yep been using it as Main bank for a year now, as has my significant other. We have to keep an Irish account open for some DDs and Cash lodgements, but everything else is done thru N26 and it's stellar.

The account transfer problems are basically down to them being a very small operation and not having anywhere enough staff to cope with demand, add to that the sluggish delivery of Mastercards and you can see why they are taking some hits.

I think they'll get over this though, the account itself is still outstanding once you make the leap. Some people really don't understand the concept of a branch-less bank and expect to have a Customer Service agent readily available 24/7/365, all the while taking what's pretty much a free service and complaining about everything.

You can't have it both ways, if you want the experience of having a local branch then stay with the relic institution on your local main street and pay accordingly.

What's the problems with DD and cash lodgements?

As for branch-less banks, ever been to BoI recently, it's like they don't want you there (well the local branch anyway)

Same old story with BOI,m. Once you use the N26 app for a while you won't won't to go back.

Cons of N26: obviously no branches so no Cash lodgements, you have to lodge to an Irish bank or Credit Union then initiate a SEPA transfer.

Also some stubborn companies still won't accept a German IBAN for DD. Others make you jump through hoops if it's not an Irish IBAN. Infuriating, but there ya go.

Can live with lodging to the credit union first, maybe they'll set something up with An Post, well one can hope if the numbers of Irish peeps joining them are to be believed

Me and a mate are looking at moving solely to them, tried Monese til their charges kicked in but N26 is reasonable charges

I pretty much use N26 solely now.
When i need to make cash lodgements, i get my mother to lodge it in AIB or the Post Office. Unless of course, i can make it myself and then i use the Credit Union.
If my mother lodges it in the bank, i use her card reader to transfer it over myself later that evening on my way home. I call in, have a cup of tea and do it there and then. It is quite painless.

Android Pay is launching in Ireland today. Has there been any word of Android Pay coming to N26? I tweeted at them last night but no response so far.

Cheers for the feedback, few people telling me they are cowboys and closing accounts randomly but Im thinking they are more uneducated about N26 and just reading a few websites rather than being heavily involved. Good to know a few of ye are using it daily. Cheers

Got my new N26 Debit card yesterday and transferred over from my old Wirecard account no problems.

Tried using it at my local post office this morning to withdraw some cash but their system is not recognising the card, anyone any ideas are Post Offices systems ever going to recognise them?

Think you need to use it in an ATM before you can use it elsewhere. Something about writing the PIN to the chip.

It depends on your definition of cowboys.

They indeed have closed accounts but not randomly, they have closed accounts of people who they don't want as customers in Germany (too many ATM withdraws, too many Cash lodgments, too many support queries and my other unknown criteria).

They have massive problems with the new cards that are send out since they now use N26 rather than Wirecard. Cards can not be read, the NFC cheap being dead, cards not printed correctly, Cards randomly not accepted and some other problems.

They also have massive challenges with customer support in that they don't have enough staff, the staff is not trained correctly and the info provided is not always right. In fact the same person sometimes gives 2 different answers to the same questions within minutes.

In addition now that they have investors to satisfy the account is becoming more and more expensive to run for the customer. And that includes customers in Ireland due to the new monthly mastercard fee and the upcoming charges for ATM transactions over a certain amount/times used.

If you can live without cash to the account and willing to fight some remaining companies that don't take non Irish IBAN for Direct Debits and want a nice account that does real time notifications, not too bad charges than N26 for sure is a good option.

However if you are new customer and in light of the new mastercard charges you might want to have a look at other banks in Europe that offer current accounts that might even be better suited.

Bunq is such an example, as I outlined here.

More and more banks are going to offer digital accounts only for EU citizens and with most companies now taking IBAN's from other countries (due to the upcoming 1 day advance notice for direct debits) it's always a good idea to shop around.

Done that yesterday morning and the atm worked no problem, then used it in a shop and that worked no problem too...

I assume you mean at the counter and not an ATM in the Post Office?

Is the post office offering cash withdraws from Credit Cards? Remember that the N26 cards are showing as credit in the most BIN lists (even if they say debit on the new ones) so that might be the reason.

Thanks for the info Yggr of Asgard. This is the part that worries me, I will be lodging about once a week from Paypal/Etsy and only using it to pay for goods with maybe one or two atm withdrawl transactions a month. I assume when you say they close your account you get your cash back? Its not a case of losing everything? Sorry for the basic questions just not really educated in the banking area.

iv used at the counter of the shop and separately at an ATM and they worked perfectly, but it wouldn't work at the post office counter

So, where's the Android Pay support? It's been out almost half an hour now and no word from them :D
