Making their debut in Dublin, meet Texan Improv troupe, 'PGraph'

Since their premier in November of 2005, Parallelogramophonograph has been more than just any improv troupe. Fiercely dedicated to the craft and art of improvised theatre, PGraph has held a weekly show non-stop for over 8 years. Early on in their time together Kaci Beeler, Kareem Badr, Roy Janik, and Valerie Ward knew they wanted to do something different onstage. Intrigued by the challenge of telling fantastic fully-improvised stories together as an ensemble, PGraph spent years developing original formats and studying the art of theatre, improv, and storytelling. They’ve toured the country and the world performing and teaching their unique brand of improv with ensemble appearances in over 40 cities in the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK.

We're pleased to have them perform two of their shows in Dublin on Friday July 31st and Saturday August 1st.

Friday 8pm Show: "Improvised French Farce" (Followed by the Frolicking Open Jam)
French Farce is an exploration of the latent comedy in social status. Infidelity, insecurity, and insatiable appetites for wealth and power collide with riveting consequences. No topic is taboo; No neurosis too absurd.

Rich in physical humor and word play, French Farce is a delight to watch. We turn a blank stage into a French salon, a blank script into sharp social commentary, and “improv comedy” into “théâtre improvisé”.

Following the show we will be opening up the stage for an open jam with PGraph!

Doors 8pm, show 8:30pm sharp for both shows.

Saturday 8pm: Villainy (Followed by the Dark Open Jam)
Villainy delves into the dark side of the human condition and tell stories that focus on the villains and anti-heroes we all love to hate.

Villainy explores the thousand faces of evil, cruelty, and hatred, all in one comical, theatrical bundle. The good, sensible person in you will tell you to look away, but you won’t. Indulge in your darker side while we indulge in ours.

Following the show we will be opening up the stage for an open jam with PGraph!

    Pricing:
    Single Show: €10
    Both shows: €16

    Venue: The Harbour Playhouse
30 Avenue Road, Portobello, Dublin 8

For participants attending the Intensive weekend, a special rate of €10 in total for both shows.

    Testimonials/Media:
★★★★★ “It was a rare treat to watch this highly skilled company”- Theatre People Australia

★★★★★ "Totally brilliant, we LOVED it." -London Improv

“It’s a testament to their commitment to the craft and and their comfort on stage that they managed to sustain a rapt audience through laugh-free periods. You know, like good theater tends to do.”
    -The Austinist.com

"Improvised comedy theatre was a genre which I previously wouldn't go within a mile of. But we said that whoever canvassed us first we would attend their show irregardless. What an eye opener! Fantastic acting, genuinely funny and a joy to watch the story unfold. Brilliant!"
    - BroadwayBaby at the Edinburgh Fringe 2011

"Capturing the true spirit of the Fringe is this US improv four-piece…the outfit maintain a charismatic warmth throughout [the performance] as well as a sharp wit and excellent understanding of how to hold their audience."
    - The List UK

Come meet Claudia who cares for him or Dimitri who tries to help him, The shrink who doesn’t say much or the fitness instructor who says to much, finally meet his neighbour who is a bit strange, but are we not all a bit strange?

Firedoor Theatre are proud to present The Lovers' Guide to Losing Your Mind, written by Jason Coburn, directed by Alex McKenzie.

A darkly comic tale exploring love, hate, memory and growing up — all the while tearing apart the rules of live theatre to do it.

The story follows two ill-adjusted young Dubliners, Andy and Annie, drawn together by a shared sense of uncertainty as to where their lives should be going as they cross into their thirties.

However, like so many turbulent romances, the story soon morphs into something darker — the tale of two exes, trying to reconcile their conflicting memories from a brief but impactful relationship that ended eight years previously.

“Platero Y yo”: a necessary book for the soul which won the author, Juan Ramon Jiménez, the Nobel Prize for Literature. In the text, joy and sorrow are very easily recognizable, very much like the two hairy ears of the much loved donkey. The pages of this extraordinary book transport us to the landscapes of Old Andalusia, through the tame soul and the sweet spirit of this Moorish breed of donkey.

Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, one of the foremost guitar composers in the twentieth century, was inspired by the poems and set them to music. They can be described as musical commentaries, reinforcing and complementing Jiménez’s prose, and matching the changing moods. The guitar paints musical pictures of birds, village festivals and dancing, the colors of the sky at twilight, at times using such techniques as staccato to represent trotting, harmonics in an address to the moon, habanera rhythms, and a toccata to welcome Spring. The nature of the music is as gentle as Platero himself.

The performance will be mainly in Spanish, the original language of Jimenez book.
    English text will be available.

    Director: Gerardo A. Placido
    Guitar: Manuele Colacci

Long time listener, first time caller :)

I just wanted to promote a project produced completely via Zoom during lockdown premiering this week by an amateur group. We're an English-speaking group based in Munich, Germany, so looking forward to being able to share this with a much wider global audience.

The show will be available from Thursday, 9 July at 7 PM CET (so 6 PM Irish time) until 12 July, streaming for free on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Smm6xuzx_3c

If you want to find out more about the production, check out our blog.
Or find us on social media @EntityTheatre on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Or if you have any questions, send me a message on here!

     About the play:

Love Me Tinder is a fairy tale of “first dates” on of all days, Valentine’s Day. It takes the dating app Tinder and moves it into a fantasy world of Real, Fictitious, Medieval, and TV Personas meeting for that magical and mystical first date in today’s, always digitally connected, metaverse.

Love Me Tinder is where analog reality blends with the digital sphere of fantasy and hopefully leads to romance. Valentine's Day, a night where dreams may or may not hold true.

We welcome you to a fabulous night where love will be brought back to the world. A night where dreams may or may not hold true, as our characters meet their prospective soulmates. A night where we will discover if old loves can rekindle the forgotten past. Witness whether a naive young woman, pure as the driven snow, can find a prince in a not so charming DJ. It’s a night where an Instagram princess may finally meet her equally vain match. A night where a famed Kinsale pirate attempts to plot a nemesis’ demise with rum and a promise of debauchery. Discover if competing family traders in The English Market become one in union. Could there possibly be a “coming out” of sorts that leads to dinner and a movie between confused souls? Will someone with EPS soon have SPS? (You have to join us to understand that one!) After all, what happens at First Dates restaurant STAYS at First Dates restaurant.

Love Me Tinder was devised and written by members of Rebel City Drama Club.
