    Hi all,

I have a 2004 Maxum 1800 with a 3L Mercruiser and an Alpha one Drive.

The prop I have has a few dents, its stainless steel and I wondering If I should get it fixed?

I have been quoted €150 to get it fixed and wondering

a: do i need to and

b: should I just buy a new aluminium one, which would probably be about the same cost?

Any recommendations on where to get it done around Dublin?

I have images but Im not sure how to upload them!

    Thanks in advance

Hi fcdub and welcome, are you sure your prop is stainless as it looks like it's painted, a good repair shop will cost more or less the same as a new prop so unless you need the small advantage of a SS prop I would just buy a new aluminium one or if it's not costing you too much in speed and vibration keep the one you have till it gets too bad to use.

I'm not a petrolhead but even a handful of barnacles on a sailing prop is enough to worry about the drive bearings if left unfixed.

Fergal is a better man to advise you on this.

Yeah thats what I was wondering, will the imbalance do damage to the engine and gears? or is it normal enough to have a few dings?

Can you post a photo of the whole prop its hard to tell from that photo how bad it is, did the tip break off or is it just bent. I'd be surprised to see a prop without a few dings :)

The bottom left looks to have a bit missing alright but you might be able to get it re balanced without losing much power it will probably be just over €100 or you could get a new aluminium one for just under €200.

I have used these before http://swords.yalwa.ie/ID_103143639/MEC-Fabricators-Ltd.html but I heard they might have moved so give them a call first. You could also try http://dublingravingdocks.com/marine-repair/.
