Bouncer punches woman who tried to punch him.

The bouncer is currently under police investigation for punching a woman after she threw a punch at him. Would he be under investigation if he had hit back at a man who tried to deck him?

What do you reckon folks, did the bouncer do right?

I'm kind of conflicted on this one. I absolutely believe that it's a scummy thing for a man to hit a woman but equally you can't allow half the population free reign to lash out at men either.

I think I'm going to go with equal rights here and say that he did right. She tried to assault him and the argument could be made that he acted in self defence.

Am I in the minority in thinking this?

I'm all for self defense but I watched the video and she was no threat. I would say the same thing if she was a man. She was so drunk he easily ducked her pathetic punch. He could easily restrained her or pushed her over. In this case it was a complete over reaction on his part.

If someone has a go at you, you have a right to defend your self appropriately. She was no threat here and didn't even hit him. His reaction was not proportionate.

The man/woman angle is stupid. There are plenty of women who could cause damage in a fight but this woman was not one of them.

Shouldn't have punched her not because she was a woman but because a punch wasn't required in this case. Bouncers should have restraint, they are generally dealing with drunk people and in this case someone who was obviously a lot weaker so actually punching as opposed to pushing away or restraining should be a last resort (maybe not quite last resort but definitely down the line)

Can't have been that much of a punch considering she was left standing, I was expecting something much worse.

That being said, he is a bouncer, he was in no real danger even if she had connected, so he should be looking to defuse the situation which he easily could have done.

You're allowed use reasonable force to defend yourself. As far as I'm concerned if someone comes at you it's reasonable to assume they're a threat until it's very clear otherwise. Obviously the Rambos will say he should just bearhug her and use some nifty stuff to neutralise her. **** that. If he gets her in a bear hug she can gouge, stamp, bite still.
I would say fair play to him but a swing like that and she's still standing in heels. :P

I'm not a fan of violence in general regardless of the agressor's gender but I can only sympathize with the bouncer here.

I mean what's he supposed to do....stand there quietly while the woman hits him just because she's a she?

I think he took advantage of the situation.

Western culture is presently on an equality trip thats gone too far.

Men and women are different, that must be accepted, it answers many questions.

Saying the opposite works to the favor of the woman who's been unfairly mistreated or dismissed as not as capable when she was all along.

This punching situation however, is the price paid for the above womans benefit.

By all means he had the right to an open hand ol' west style bitch slap.

But not a full punch, thats too dangerous.

In a more 50's scenario he'd be in trouble.
But then again, in a more 50's scenario women would be told they shouldn't look to progress in a career.

The rough comes with the smooth.

Looks like a sort of instinctual smack to me. It's not like he had a good long think about it and then punched her. She swung aggressively, he countered with what was, from the looks of it, not a full force hit but more of a smack or clout.

I think she got what she deserved - as to whether or not the bouncer should be investigated, I'd be inclined to say no given the circumstances, he didn't exactly brutalise her and she certainly started it and invited it on herself.

Don't know if it's true or not but apparently she had been ejected before that for rowdy behavior.

Watched it and while I think if a woman attacks a man he has to be able to defend himself, I don't think she was putting much of fist fight here.

Think he was ott, but she was in the wrong too, she did draw the first punch.

No, the scumbag didn't do right, and that's all he is. There's no "equal rights" argument here when the doorman is in a position where he is obliged to behave in a professional manner. Patrons are only obliged not to behave like scumbags. Two wrongs don't make a right.

She was the aggressor so deserved it.

Its one of those things in the fight or flight mode.

His punch was not a proper full force one as if he had she would have went down like a sack of potatoes.

Simple solution don't go starting and these things won't tend to happen.
