Quartz / Granite kitchen worktop alternatives?

I'm in the process of putting in a new kitchen and I've been quoted a very high figure for a granite worktop and I wondering what alternatives there might be that have that look but are not as expensive - acrylic/composite/faux granite sort of thing.

I've seen some nice examples in Ikea but don't know what material they are made from - matte worktops that feel very solid and definitely aren't laminate. Any advice much appreciated!

    I'm in a similar situation...
Think I'm going to source an acrylic countertop....brand name is apollo magna - they've a few different colurs/designs.
Good thing about the stuff is it can be worked with with ordinary carpentry tools, so you can rout it and curve the corners easily. Also when joining 2 pieces you dont see the seem (if its done correctly) so you end up with what looks like one piece.
I first saw it on a uk website kitchencollection it was called where a 3m length costs 400GBP supplied. It can be got over here in Hefale but i'm not sure of the price and the range isn't complete. I'm a bit away from ordering mine, so haven't really done much more sourcing here.

I'm not saying the whole range looks exactly like granite... but you might get what you're looking for. There's lots of youtube videos online.

Quartz is cheaper than Granite, did you just get the quote for granite?
