I'm thinking of adding an eletric exhaust cut out valve in a Vauxhall astra sxi 3 door. Wondering if the boys in the nct would fail it when they see it!
Would give the car a good sport sound but wouldn't be worth cutting out parts of the exhaust system if it'll fail!

So long as there are no leaks and its a neat tidy job then there should be no problem with it. There are cars that come with them fitted as standard so I cant see why an aftermarket version would cause any problems.

She would have an extra exhaust exit before the muffler so it would be louder. Don't know if that would make it a fail on the NCT!

Ah right that's not what I was thinking of. I was thinking of the inline valve that can be added to loud exhausts that quieten it when closed.

But saying that, if the valve is closed and the exhaust is being routed through the normal piping for the NCT then there is no reason it should fail. If they ask about it tell them it's for track use only.

I would make up a blanking plate out of 1/2" plate and bolt it on the cutout for the NCT.
That way it is sealed and no one should complain.

However i can see no good reason to fit this to a 1.6 astra....
These cutouts are usually used on Drag racing cars as even track cars usually have noise limits which are breached with an open downpipe.

So yes you can do it, probably pass with a blanking plate and a friendly NCT guy.
