Water was cut off in my area for a while and when i tried to use electric shower water was spurting out and jumping at high speed, same as taps. Anyway i ran the taps to clear air lock but then i went back to shower and water is now only coming out in a dribble and is not heating. Ive let it run for some time but little change

Take shower head off and let hose drop down. Turn power selection to blue /cold. Turn flow dial all the way to blue. Turn the shower on for 20 seconds.
If no improvement there might be a way to purge the air inside the shower.
What is the make and model of the shower?

With a Triton, T90XR anyway, you turn off the power at the mains, take off the front cover and push on a little button valve which should purge the shower.

Easy job for a DIYer, but as always if you're not sure ask someone who is qualified.

Tried that, no improvement. Make is Mira Sport, dont see a model number.

Mira Sport is a mains fed shower. You shouldn't have an airlock in that. Check the filter but if you aren't even getting a drop of water out of it then it is very likely that you need a new solenoid

If water is at a dribble its also possible that the mains pressure hasn't been restored properly yet

It's plumber that you need. Your electric shower seems to be working fine. It's the plumbing /filter /&water pressure needs looking at.

Flow is fine now but its not heating up so I tried that again after a couple of days and changed dial back after 30 seconds and water heated up, however when i put shower head back on im only getting cold water again

Is there actually electricity getting to the shower unit? Has the fuse tripped?

    No

If water comes out then you definitely have have power.

It's a water pressure problem. You don't have enough pressure to activate the pressure switch. Pressure switch sends electricity to the element

An update and im scratching my head here. If i take off show head and put power selection to blue /cold. Turn flow dial all the way to blue. Turn the shower on for 20 seconds. Then turn to medium or high and the water heats fine, i then put on the shower head (while water is running) and its fine.

However when i turn off shower and turn on again with showerhead in place its the same old problem, water not heating at all. Also when i turn dial to high i can only get roasting hot water and if turn the dial back a even a wee bit it goes cold though dial on medium is fine.:confused:

Oh and i did try all the above with a different shower head and exact same results

Basically do i need an electrician or a plumber?:o

    It's a water pressure problem.

    Filter is blocked

Shower head needs to be descaled

Water pressure coming into the building is not good enough.

Start with the shower head then filter.

Shower head was actually de scaled just before this problem started

If it's not the filter then you'll need to get in touch with Irish water about the pressure.
Another option is to change from mains fed shower to tank fed.

Thanks for your advice but im useless at this kind of thing i'll get someone in to have a look but do i call an electrician or a plumber?

Ring Irish water first. They are free & will check out the pressure at the meter.

Most electricians don't like working on water so you need the make so that you get one that does or else a dedicated shower repair company.

I doubt it very much that you will find an electrician with a pressure gauge to test the water pressure. Looks like a plumber is the way forward
