I need to replace my old washing machine after the drum went.

looking to replace it with a 10kg machine.
I've been looking at a whirlpool one which is currently at 800 euro.

my question is having also noticed Hoover and indesit 10kg machines at around 400 euro. is it with paying twice as much for the whirlpool one?

We have the Hoover 10kg, can't fault it, it gets over used and never have had an issue with it.

how long have you had it? I had heard the quality isn't the best, so nice to hear that

About 2 years, we have 3 kids so it gets used plenty with them.

We have a Samsung 9KG ecobubble. I can't recommend it enough, the 5 year warranty and 10 year motor guarantee is great too. Had endless issues with Whirlpool (American style fridge & washing machine), never again.

    I'd buy hoover over whirlpool.

Get the 5yrs parts and labor in the price
Cheapest option in the long run.

Fully agree. Samsung all the way. No comparison with Whirlpool/Hoover/Indesit.

Hoover is absolute **** quality. You don't get any more than 2/3 years with them. I know a lot of Landlords who used them. You were replacing them nearly every 2/3 years. A lot switched to Bosch when it got more affordable about 10/15 years ago. Some have Bosch washing machines and dishwasher that are going strong 15 years later

I would go for a 8kg machine for the simple reason, it is a common machine to buy and it is a lot cheaper to buy than a 10kg. Plus you get excellent brands at 8kg versus all the 10kg brands being horrific quality.

A decent looking Samsung 8kg is only 459

Or an entry level Bosch 8kg is

Here is even a Siemens with a 5 year warranty for 529

Okay, thanks for your advice. I'm now going to look at the 8kg and looking at the expert.ie website, Siemens, Samsung and Bosch are all roughly the same price.

So is it just down to preference, or would one of those brands be far better than the others??

Bosch and Siemens are made in the same factory, so it's down to warranty and specs from there. As I said my Samsung 9KG is brilliant and comes with the big warranty.

Power city has a 9KG Samsung ecobubble on promotion at 579euro with the free 5 year warranty once you register it. There's 10 year on the digital inverter too.

I'd go for the Siemens personally...

Why? As mentioned Bosch and Siemens are the same. Do you get a better warranty with them?

I bought a Hoover washer and a separate dryer and ended up replacing them both after about 4 years. I replaced them with a Samsung washer and a cheap Candy dryer. They're both still going fine after 6 years and the load has increased since I got them (arrival of kids).

Are the extended warranties worth it? I've heard of a few people who got the service guy (during warranty) to be told yeah I can fix it.. But it'll take 6 weeks to get the part... Or i can just sell you a new one at a discount... (mainly fridges to be fair).
Who can be without their fridge/washing machine whatever for that long?

Not with Samsung anyway, have a fridge and a washer. I overloaded the washer with too much bedding, a man trying to be helpful! Anyway, I'd had it just over 3 years, technician arrived the next day and was shocked there was a problem. He said he hadn't seen issues with them. He ran diagnostics and recalibrated it, back to normal after that.

    I have this one https://www.expert.ie/products/home-appliances/laundry/washing-machines/electrolux-ewf1486gdw-8kg-washing-machine
When I was buying it, the chap said it was a 10kg drum, but for some reason it's listed as an 8kg machine.
Definitely a bigger drum than the 8kg Zanussi it replaced, and a lot quieter. Super machine!
