Top picture looks nice but the rear isnt as good, much like the new festy
    A new eight-speed automatic transmission will be available with the 125hp 1.0-litre EcoBoost, 150hp 1.5-litre EcoBoost, 120hp 1.5-litre EcoBlue and 150hp 2.0-litre EcoBlue engines.

    Eight speed automatic?

    Looks lower.

    Has the fiesta rear.

They are all doing this for years now where all models are very near the same looks

Looks like the Mazda 3 to me which is an ugly looking brute.

    It's gorgeous!

Reminds me of the new i30, which like the Focus is much less attractive one than the model it replaced. This has the same low and long dipping bonnet that I don't like on the Hyundai. Is this coming from pedestrian safety design?

Nah, they're just copying off each other. That new i30 is terrible looking compared to the previous model.

I thought the same when the current version came out that from the rear quarter panel that it looked a bit renault-ish

Yes - probably one of AWF8Fxx boxes.

If there's a boggo spec weedy 90 bhp diesel version with keep fit Windows, black door handles and black mirrors it'll sell like hot cakes here.

Front looks nice but can't say I like the rear at all.
Course there will be some style packs and extras put in/on but still prefer the MK 3 post FL look

Hmmmmmm that rear could use a bit of work, but I like it.

Not sure where that yellow pic came from. From Fords press kit, ST Line. qodUCk0.jpg77zsr2L.jpg

It's more to do with creating less wind resistance therefore giving better m.p.g. and lower emissions. These seem to be the primary considerations when it comes to designing new cars these days, SUV's in particular.

You'd never think that was a focus looking at that. It does looks good from that angle though.

haha ok - supposedly that can be open to opinion especially if it looks like a BMW 1 series/i30/Mazda 3 mash up.

Looks good, more so from the front than the rear - a bit like the new Fiesta, the rear end bears a strong resemblance to a Nissan Pulsar(?) and thats not a good thing imo.

The spy pics always have them on big wheels and sitting lower than it will ever be in reality so.... aside from the hot versions, most examples you will see littered on Irish roads will not look so "sporty"!

Couldn’t put my finger on what car it reminded me of until you said it Joe.

Is it not always the same cycle every few years though? Ford introduces a new focus that will drive well, look good but have only ok quality. VW then come along a year or two later and will trump it for (perceived) quality and more or less match driving dynamics(mark 4 excepted) and the status quo remains.

    I like!

No mention of hybrid or electric!

I might have to retract my initial response of ''it's gorgeous''. Would I look twice if it didn't have the kit and alloys on it? Who knows.

Also getting an Impreza hatchback feel to it.

I wonder if we'll even get the automatic petrol? Can't get a petrol auto Focus in Ireland at the moment. Automatic is still a bit taboo in Ireland which is annoying because they're quickly increasing in popularity and everyone swears by them.

Doesnt jump out at me too much.

Still think the focus should have the rear light cluster running vertically up each side of the rear window (ala the original focus). Made it look a bit different and unique.

This new focus could drive by me tomorrow and there's 3 or 4 other cars I could think it was if i didn't see the badge on it.

It also looks like it's sitting lower at the back than the front.. which is a bit odd.. or is that just my eyes?

Is it just me, or does it looks very different in the OP's photos compared to the ones posted by PetroleumJello - far better looking in the OP's post and it's the latter's post that is apparently what it really will look like - i.e. uglier!

No independent rear suspension unless you go for one of the expensive models, quite a step backwards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 471 ✭✭Turbohymac

Unfortunately it's still a ford. No doubt loads of design flaws & no recalls. Ford just brushes all mechanical &design faults under the carpet.. just look at their transit vans total disaster machines

Was looking at a Mondeo St line earlier. The panel gaps were shocking in places.
