Is the new Feminist movement damaging male female relationships?

Your in trouble when you say some of your best friends are women.

But is there a real risk that the "movement" at present, is very damaging to male female relationships ?

Some of my best friends are women - they work in a very male dominated area of science and technology. Yes that is wrong - but they are changing things one day at a time and doing the work of real change and influence.

Recently I've found some women talking to me in the context of the Belfast Rape trial - as if this should define my relationship with women. It is a bit odd.

I've had incredible professional relationships with women - due to my admiration at their problem solving - mathematically ability - abstract ability to solve problems.

But now - I'm told unless you are on board with the 8th and the the Belfast rape trail you have issues and sort of are against the movement. :eek:

It is dangerous times - and the progress that has been made in the last 40 years is being thrown away with the baby in the bath water.

this kind of stuff rarely comes up offline and when it does the conversation is usually a lot milder, for obvious reasons.

if society is changing around us, sure, the internet will be an input into that. but if it weren't that, it'd be something else. social dynamics never stand still for very long. worse things happen at sea. we're here for a good time, not a long time. etc etc. cheer up.

I don't think I've ever had a serious discussion with a friend, acquaintance or colleague (beyond the usual "God, that's terrible" etc) about that kind of stuff. It just doesn't crop up because it's bizarrely intense and life's too short.

The 8th amendment is a violation of human rights and has been flagged as such by the UN commission on human rights more than once. Now we have a bizarre juxtaposition where democratic process determines whether to continue violating basic human rights of a large section of society. Not something that should be framed as a feminist issue imo; it is a basic human rights issue.

A lot of those signs look like they were made by people who went along for the laugh. The only ones missing there were 'down with this sort of thing' and 'John 3:16'

It is and it's not. It's a reality in certain sections of the media, It's a reality in certain sections of the interwebs, it's a reality with a section of the student and faculty body, it's a reality with a minority of scary haired loons with cats, it's a reality within some companies(mostly US in origin) and it's a reality with some in the political sphere.

Now that does have a crossover effect on the general public's mind, but in the vast majority of cases most don't care beyond a fleeting "ahh isn't that awful? Lovely weather we're having".

I agree that the vast majority of people don't care or tune out but that doesn't change the fact that third wave feminism is having an ever increasing negative effect. Social change sneaks up on society. Much of the changes in Sweden and Iceland for example happened gradually. I'm not saying we are at that stage of course, but certain people in powerful positions are absolutely attempting to navigate us in that direction.

It's not our generation that will feel it first either. It's the younger generation as they are the ones that are in the firing line when it comes to gender politics. You just have to look at the aftermath of the recent rugby trial to see what a grip these people have on a certain section of youth culture. That influence gives them leverage which they can use to manipulate certain fractions into doing what they want. Women's rights groups protested the IRFU all last week, giving interviews daily about how they need to remove these players to show that they won't stand for misogyny and that's pretty much what they have done.

Feminist activism today is largely destructive and whether the public at large pays any attention to them or not is irrelevant as they will affect change regardless. They don't want equality of opportunity, like old school feminists rightly fought for, they want equality of outcome and they are damn well getting it. I was only speaking with a play writer last week who told me that he was seeing excellent work passed over for very mediocre offerings just because the writer was a woman and this is all on the back of changes that are being implemented following the 'Waking the Feminists' pushing for a diversity and equality strategy throughout the national theatre.

These might seem like quite trivial issues, but what we are seeing now is just a taste of what's coming down the line.

Of course it is its all just disguised Misandry something so incredibly common in society yet many have to google the words meaning its so infrequently spoken of.

Most TV "feminists" look miserable. Decades of hatred against men does that to you.

Intersestingly most intelligent women I ever met always laughed at how absurd and hysterical career feminists were. These women have proper jobs ie vet,psychologist, and a carer.

Most Louise O Neill types care about as much as battered women as the people abusing them.

Its a handy career being a Twitter Warrior.

How the likes of her have a career sprouting such ingenuine rubbish is beyond me.

Im not humble bragging or being a dck, but I'm gone MGTOW I had no other choice.

Men going their own way.

It's easier much easier.

I have my ducks in a row, a 17 year old son,get on great with his step-dad and mum, bigger than average house in the Burren, car paid for two year old car,mortgage payments one tenth of my monthly income.
Public sector job,loads of Bob.

The amount of brats and self serving idiots who're looking to piggy back their future on dating sites is phenomenal.

OK I have a female friend who's very understanding for comfort and walks,movies etc
I bring her son fishing sometimes, we meet regularly for tea or a chat.
No sex, it complicates things,suits me and her.

She's anti femminism....because she says it's full of contradiction...

She's tired of the whole well femminism is all about equality...bull****...

You're right. Women are the sexis ones who have been oppressing men for centuries.

How often do I have to point out that one single story about women groping men in kilts does not illustrate a trend.

Here's a bit of advice. Get down of the fcuking cross. You are not being oppressed by feminism. Feminism is an objective good thing. And if you feel awkward having these conversations about what men can and can't do to women, well the conversation was long overdue.

I realise having a go at feminists seems to be having a resurgence now. Unless you enjoy groping and being sexist there is nothing to worry about though. Feminism is about equality. The only people who seem to be annoyed with it are people who feel that they are losing out. And if you're losing out because of equality it means you shouldn't have had the advantage that you're losing.

As for the OP, If you're a guy who wants to chat up a woman here's some advice, go talk to her like she's a fcukling human being, just like you, and everything will be fine. If you don't want to chat her up, act like she's a human being, just like you.

And you know what, having a conversation about rape and sexual assault with women can be quite enlightening. They know a lot more about it than we do.
