I was heading down George street today after work to meet the wife and kids to take them to a comic book shop. (Trying to encourage reading and all that)
On the left in some ice cream parlour place a girl was holding a big ice cream over a menu and taking a photo of it. She was just some yang wan doing her Instagram or Facebook thing where she lets everyone know where she is or how great her life is.
Does she feel pressure to look like she is having a great life?

Is she just pretending to be her favorite celebrity but doesn’t realize her celebrity is paid to reinforce these products and was told to go here by her manager who secured an endorsement deal and the celebrity was probably only there for enough time to take the Instagram picture and didn’t even look at the menu?

Does she know that by following Kim k on social media she is the product? Kim k goes to Pizza Hut to advertise Pizza Hut then you go to Pizza Hut for free and advertise Pizza Hut.

Her FaceTiming or snapchatting this place is just advertising for the company why isn’t she looking to be paid?

Is it about time we copped on that twitter and all these other platforms are either just people making money advertising to you the follower or the followers pretending to be influencers but not getting paid?

Or is it all just a bit of harmless fun where teenage girls forced to grow up too fast play pretend that they are modern day princesses?

Is it the new reality tv?

In the beginning Instagram used to about nice pictures of nice things. Then it became about the ppl who were taking the photos. I can't believe the number of ppl who use it to show off their gym trained bodies whether hetro men or gay men. Endless pics of themselves working out in the gym, posting their latest gym stats, whether that's how much they can lift or their latest quad circumference etc. It's really sad. I never knew there was so many self absorbed narcissists in this world. What vacuous lives some ppl lead.

There is an awful lot of projection here, you literally saw her take a picture, nothing more, you know nothing about her.

Also I think it needs to be stressed that people post pictures on their own social media accounts that they want to post, they're not posting pictures that they think you'll like.

To call them narcissists for not posting things on their own account that interest you is a bit ironic.

Why did you tell us the information in the first bolded part if you don't understand the question in the second bolded part?

You want us to think of you or perceive you in a particular way. So too does the young lady.

We all think we are unique and we prove this by behaving in a stereotypical way.

That’s a good point. I suppose I thought you might think I was some kind of oddball heading into town to look into ice cream parlour windows. I remembered not to mention any shop names or brand names though. Apart from Pizza Hut butI think they are gone

Do they not check how many likes they get?

I don’t take pictures of anything apart from work I’m billing clients for or my family the odd time. I never put it on social media to force people who hardly know me to pretend they like it so I don’t get offended.

    Who is forcing anyone?

I don’t do Instagram but each to their own. In modern life pretty good digital cameras are available in phones, and phones are universal. Inevitably this leads to more photos.

Not too many years ago I was invited to a dinner party where the hilight was a family trip the the amazon the hosts had taken a few years prior. It’s was all projected. That was forced. Two hours of jungle photos. Good too, btw. But long.

People used to bring in their holiday snaps to work too. Confining that nonsense to a digital environment I don't have to partake in is a win.

Do you think it’s like a trade off

I’ll look at your pictures of your new back garden if you look at my pictures of my abs after I trained my abs on ab day in my gym.

Sure I’m just waiting to see if anybody likes my back garden pictures so I may as well.

As a matter of fact that is not correct and I'll tell you why. So how did I come across these instagram profiles? Well become some are linking their instagram profiles on dating apps. Some dating apps have specific sections to put your instagram profile or others just write the link into their "about me" section. Dating apps don't usaully provide for stickin up more than one pic, certainly that's all you get on Grindr. So yes, they are posting pictures of themselves in the hope that I would like them. That's how I became aware of all these narcissistic Instagram profiles in the the first place because I don't use Instagram !

Ahhh not again. OP here you are yet again generalising and bashing others.

First it was Office people all take cocaine.

Then teachers take the p with sick days, while woman are in awe of you and men envy you on the beach due to your(I won’t say the r word) BMI.

Now there is something wrong with people who use Instagram.

All of these posts bashing others would indicate you have a problem with your own self confidence and are trying always to project this into others.

    Live and let live.

I browse AH now and then, but Christ, are you ever not here posting absolute rubbish! It looks like it’s how you spend your evenings.

    This is not my quote.

It’s from someone else. From another thread you stared before this one. The teacher bashing one. But today is Deja vu thread only young women vs. teachers vs. office workers.

I’m surfing boards this evening and I come across ANOTHER judgemental thread taking issues with someone’s choices.

From what I recall, you accused another poster of stalking you also this week. Do you have a persecution complex?

You seem to take grave offence when someone disagrees with you.

Again, what’s your issue with other people’s choices?

    Live and let live.

    No you said it.

Not sure why you think you are superior to anyone else, teachers, Office workers, people posting on instagram.

The reality is, you are not.

You are caught up with believing your own hype. Not every woman fancies you, not every man envies you.

Maybe it’s changed since I was a young lad. I never had time back then to worry about what was drawn on my leg never mind spending a day in a shop waiting for somebody to draw on my leg. I’d have always thought of better things to do back then.

I went in with a few of the lads when I was younger and they were getting ones to show they were individuals. They all picked one off the wall we were told it’d be a few hours. I said feck that and went off (probably boozing) and never returned to a tattoo shop again. The wife has a few. So does everybody else I suppose.

I bet you have a music symbol or kitten claws

This gives me a great idea for a new thread. Guess my tattoo.
