    Hi,

So we’re looking at wedding venues at the moment and we’re finding it hard to find nice places for about 60-70 people. Inviting about 80 so taking into account drop off rate.

A lot of the venues that I have looked at weren’t as nice as I hoped or the reception room was too big for our numbers. Also what was ruling out certain venues was the minimum numbers as we would like to have it on a Friday or Saturday. Semi off peak season though in April.

We’re looking in Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare. Would consider stretching to Meath but just over half of the guests will be travelling from Cork so nothing too far.

We’ve looked at Tulfarris, Finnstown, Celbridge Manor, Kingswood House and Springfield Hotel. Few others we were going to go look at like Portmarnock Hotel, Moyvalley, Clanard court and Summerhill house either didn’t have any of the dates we were looking at or had minimum number of 100. Some would decrease that for us to 80 but that still could have been a stretch depending on rsvp numbers.

We’re actually leaning towards Springfield even though I was hoping for something a bit more rustic like a manor or country house style but I guess who really takes that much notice of the outside/lobby?? The ceremony/reception room is gorgeous and the food is meant to be fab. They have been great to deal with aswell. We’d be getting pictures done in Castletown house down the road.

Any suggestions of other places we could view please??

    Thanks

You don't have the place in Straffan on your list. Can't think of the name now. Not the K club. Barberstown? Have you tried there?

    Rattsallagh?

The Millhouse is supposed to be lovely but they didn't have our date so didn't view. Same with Tankardstown (sorry both Meath)

Kilruddery in Wicklow do Weddings from May to October I think. You get married in the Orangery and it looks fab.

Fallon & Byrne might suit as max 120?

Oh Medley in Town is brilliant. We went to view it. That could be perfect. The old Irish Times building on Fleet Street? It is really cool actually. Andrew Rudd I think is the chef.

Kings Inn too in town, looks fabulous. Some lovely places like Susey St and Fitzwilliam. Have you googled them? Both fabulous.

I've worked in Palmerstown House a few times (I'm a photographer) and the old house is fab. The max numbers they take I think is 110 so your numbers would be perfect.
Are you hoping to have your ceremony onsite also? If you are then you wouldn't have to move from mthe house for the day which makes it so relaxing. I can send you a gallery if you wanted to see a few pics of the house setup for a wedding. Best of luck.

    Thanks for the suggestions;

Yes I forgot to mention Rathsallagh. I was in contact with them and they have a min 100 guests but they were willing to lower to 70 but we had to occupy 29 rooms on the night.

We do have just over half coming from cork and the rest from Dublin but depending on the cost of accommodation/other reasons people may not stay at the place and like cheaper alternatives. I don’t want to commit to that many bedrooms and then hoping people will stay there so I wouldn’t be caught out to cover the cost.

Re Palmerstown – They also have 100 min guests but they may be flexible on that. Yes we also will be having a civil ceremony onsite.
Great @Davegilly If you could pm me the photos I’d appreciate it thanks. I can send you my email if that’s easier.

Re Barberstown- Ya we looked it up but the price per head is a bit out of our price range unfortunately starting at €95. Looking at max €85pp.

Same for Tankard House- bit out of the budget at starting at €90 pp.

We may be able to stretch up to 100pp if the venue would allow 60 and didn't set a minimum above that.

I hadn’t heard of the other places so will check them out, thanks a mil.

Just a quick one re. Moyvalley. We got married in the Stone House and had our reception in Balyna House. I honestly couldn't fault it as a venue or the staff there- they are amazing!!! We had 83 people and were only charged for that number. Orla, the wedding co-ordinator there is absolutely brilliant and goes above and beyond to make the day perfect. If you have any questions send me a PM :) Best of luck with the venue hunt :)

Another one is Killashee House in Naas. It's a hotel where they cater for larger weddings but they have a Manor house as well for smaller numbers. I had a wedding for 49 there a few weeks ago. I think the max they can take is 80 so should be perfect for your numbers.

I will PM you a few pics from there as well :)

    Lisnavagh house maybe?
Or Huntington castle, they don't do packages but only rent out the venue and you take care of the catering.
Marlfield in Gorey also caters smaller numbers on a weekdate.

Tinakilly in Wicklow is a Victorian country house that does weddings, I was there for a non-wedding event a few years ago and it was lovely
