Tips for having energy/concentration/ for full time work and evening Study

    Hi all

    Just looking for tips/advice from your experience with having lack of energy and concentration and how to improve it

    So I’m starting to study in the evenings and work FT at the moment

    I’m looking to hear from others who do this / have done this

    I wake about 7am Monday to Friday and then work 9-17:30pm and I get home about 6:20pm and then home/self study from about 7:30-10 after dinner so my day is 7am to 10pm with study and work non stop


    My problem is after a day of work and by 6:30pm I’m either
    1- mentally drained / tired
    2- lacking concentration to study my material for the night

    I can’t focus properly and find myself very very easily distracted ! and I’m also just drained

    I am looking for advice on how to mainly :

    1- Improve my concentration (medication / diet / exercise —- anything really)
    2- decrease fatigue


    I’m looking to you advice from experience

    How long have you been doing this?

    I've noticed studying is like going to the gym - you get better at it (better concentration, etc.) with practice.

    I study every night before bed. I don't beat myself up if I only do 20 minutes. I see it as a marathon, not a sprint.

    I previously worked full-time while doing a masters. I used to study a bit in work (cheeky, I know), in the evenings, and on weekends. I think the key to my success was my motivation was more important than my tiredness. My mind/body was prioritising the study above all else.

    I think it really helps if you like what you're studying.

    Do you get a lunch break? Could you study a bit then? Can you take a few days of work (annual leave/parental leave/study leave?) to do assignments? Weekends- plan a big session starting early one weekend day. Listen to podcasts/YouTube lectures on your commute. Keep chipping away at it and you’ll get there.

    Also- you are taking one hour to prepare and eat dinner. Get a slow cooker - throw the meat and veg in it before you go to work. Dinner ready for when you get home.

    I'm also working full time and studying part-time; I've found it helps motivate me in the evening if I've got a start made earlier in the day so I come in to work an hour early and get some study done there before starting work. I've got good energy then and that also makes it a bit easier on those evenings when you just can't face a major study session, at least you got some work done that day.

    Energy-wise, I try to keep coffee consumption to mornings only and find Pharmaton tablets give me a good boost at this time of year.

    Would you have the option of a study buddy? So long as it doesn't turn into a chat/catchup, I've found that can help - I might let myself down but I won't let someone else down ;-)
