Rural broadband myth

So much bad info in this thread.

Lots of rural customers have had DSL for years, but their effective bandwidth had been shrinking due to increased load on the backbone. 10 years ago DSL worked fine, but now everyone is online streaming Netflix etc.

6 months ago rural broadband in my area of meath was unusable due to 0.001mb/sec upload. After fiber upgrade everything works perfectly again.

Yes 100Mbit/s is complete overkill but this is not relevant, rather it's about working internet vs not working. Not disappointed!

I thought the myth was that there was broadband in rural Ireland. We've certainly not got it.

I used to think that, but then I came across Boards' Farming & Forestry forum and judging by how busy it is they all seem to be posting no problem while driving their tractors and combines, robbing neighbours' lands and wives, tackling inheritance, eh, issues and everything else. A brilliant forum, brought to us by exemplary rural broadband surely...

If they are on their tractors and combines then I suspect they are using 3 or 4G :) Or perhaps a very long ethernet cable?

I have been on Three mobile broadband as long as I can remember, getting less than 1Mb most of the time now in recent years. Best part of it is, my neighbor, who is literally 100 meters away has gigabit broadband. Eir tell me I cannot get any broadband at all... so frustrating.

Was back at home and forgot how bad the mothers and fathers wifi speeds are.

No joke i was getting 5mb down it was like the dark ages ha. So I was like let me try my phone ohh look 4G plus let me do a speed test 55mb down on phone ?.

So some how a town in ireland its better to use your phone then your wired network. While I live in a city I pay less the what the mother and father pays for wifi and i get 250mb !!!!

I could not live on 5MB ever again it was like the dark ages.

I have a feeling working from home is something the vast majority of Irish people wouldn't be interested in, I'd say it's considered unusual like homeschooling

Then there are professionals with a lot of money that don't want to live anywhere near town and want to bring their kids up in the country.

One neighbor works from home 3 days a week using a satellite connection. They can't wait for broadband of any form.
