Porting from Eir to Three sim problem/Google pay

Got new phone from 3,(husband and daughter too) kept my Eir number. From Billpay to Billpay.

All fine, except phone settings display wrong number as my phone number, I'm assuming it is the original sim number before porting.

Now I could care less what number it actually shows, but the problem is that you can pay on Google app store with Three. Except I can't because the number that shows up is not my actual number, but the original sim no. So it will not accept it as a payment option.

Now I need to get this sorted as my son is going from Eir prepay to Three prepay, and wants to keep his number, but also wants to be able to spend his credit.Which he wont be able to do if the numbers don't correspond.

Anyone had this problem and sorted it? I have contacted Three and they say the numbers have ported over (obviously as I am using my old number) They have no idea.

    HELP please

edit: all Android phones, if it makes a difference.

Try going into Google account and deleting your old payment methods.

Is Google pay even tied to a number or SIM?

Not as far as I ever knew. Tied to the Google account.

did that. Gives an option to add 3 as payment, but the number that comes up is the original sim number and not my actual number, so will not accept payment from it

Don't know if it is Google pay, but you can pay on the Google app store using your credit if you are payg or it gets added to your bill if you are bill pay. But the number that shows up is the original sim card number, and not the number that was ported to it.

What error are you getting? Are you trying to change a subscription over to pay from credit by any chance?

My number shows the original SIM number and I've no issues.

No I go to my Google Play account and add a payment method.
    Add 3.
It accepts and tells me I'm paying with +353 083 xxx xxxx That is the number that the phone displays as being my number. It isn't.

That's not my number. I tried to pay for something using 3 as payment, and it was denied(obviously as that is not my actual number) My number is the one I ported over.

That's the same process I followed, and it shows an 083 number, but I've no problem buying things.

(I did, however, have an issue changing a subscription from paying by credit card to phone credit, and I thought it might have been related to the number being wrong. 3 support were utterly useless and just blamed Google Play for the number being wrong. I may as well have being getting my two year old to troubleshoot.)

Useless they told me to change my number on the phone setting! Ridiculous.

I tried to pay for an app and it wouldn't go through

Yeah, I got the same before being told it was a Google problem.

I presume you've cleared data on Play Store/Services etc?

Yes, repeatedly. Have googled to death, can't find a solution.

Sorted. I think. Went to three shop and it took me 45 minutes to explain, while guy in shop had a nosey around my phone.

I suggested a sim swap, which was done , and now when I look at my phone number on the phone it says unknown, and my three paying option says 3 and not some random phone number.

I haven't paid for anything yet so not 100 % sure trying to go pro on an app to try!

Can confirm that the problem is resolved. I paid for an app through Google play store, and used 3 as my payment method, was accepted.

    Hi OP

Going by your original post it sounds like you were looking at the hard coded number, my phone is the exact same. I moved over to Three years ago and kept my 086 number. Three supplied me with a shiny new 083 SIM and ported my 086 number to their network. So when someone calls my 086 number the call effectively forwards to my 083 SIM.

Android can display the original number that was loaded onto the SIM, but an Android phone has no access to the real phone number stored on Three's end.

This is what I think you experienced.

Yep that was it, though sorted now with a sim swap. Waited till my original sim was no longer functional, then swapped over, problem resolved.
