Netflix older children

    Hi

    I have children 9 and 10 y.

Their Netflix channels only recommend v childish stuff. I have had a go at searching for more interesting age appropriate stuff but not really finding anything.

On my own channel I notice have a Lemony Snicket series which is rated PG, but this is not to be found on theirs.

Am a bit stumped. Any suggestions? Parental control is already set up for PG.

    TIA

Would it be possible to set up a new adult profile with parental settings on it to limit them to Pg and lower? No idea how unsuitable their PG stuff might be.

Probably I'd guess netflix could get into legal trouble if they allow kids open access to stuff tv / films that parents want to be present during.

It's probably down to the guidelines saying some parents will want to be present while their children are watching PG rated material:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Film_Classification_Office
    Cinematic certificates
G – General: Suitable for all
PG – Parental Guidance: Suitable for children aged eight and older; parents are advised to accompany younger children.

    <snip>
    Home video certificates
G – General: Suitable for all
PG – Suitable for general viewing, but parents are advised to watch with children younger than 12 years old.

If it's any good to you, I've heard of this website which I think tries to guide parents about specific Films / TV using:
Reviews for what your kids want to watch (before they watch it)
Trusted ratings created with families in mind.

A ratings filter would be really handy in browsing for stuff alright!

There are 2 options under the kids accounts:
    Toddlers
    Older Children
I imagine you have it set for Toddlers.

Did a search with kids plus age (kids 10) and some stuff came up that way. Not all really very young stuff. Have you tried "family" as a search?

I tried family movies and older kids and kids 10. But wasn’t impressed with results !

I must check settings, where do I find the older children setting? I have had a good look on app and on the online site but am clearly blind!

Go to https://www.netflix.com/ManageProfiles, pick their profile, set it to 'child' and use the dropdown to specify shows for older kids.

Not looking to hijack your Q's OP, but i came onto boards tonight and i was going to ask you fellow boardsies what to recommend now that the family has watched Lost in Space together. Ill give it a solid 7 /10. It was entertaining and we all got through it.
Is there any other decent family series on Netflix that would be suitable for a 12 - 14 yr old
Monkey also came up on Netflix as a recommendation after we watched L in S - I intend to give this a try unless something else can come from this post.
    Anyone?

Have a browse through the genre codes and follow the instructions on using the browser to browse that genre:

    https://www.alphr.com/netflix/1002493/netflix-genre-codes-how-to-find-netflixs-hidden-categories

I saw a breakdown by age under the family catagory.

Add them to your list as you find movies that you like

Netflix has one of the most poorly implemented age and password systems I've ever seen. Its so bad.

There's a huge gap between older kids and under 15 which it fails catastrophically to handle.

There's hardly a feedback system where all this could be sent into them to at least have a think about is there?

Have found and changed their settings from toddlers only (!), will see what impact that has. Thanks a mil everyone.

Have been looking around at other platforms, Disney Life looks ok? Anyone with experience of it?

White Collar. Into second season of it now with my 11 year olds...they love it. They also liked Lost in Space which was indeed good family viewing. Very hard to find series like that these days. It's an odd gap in the market.

One dodgey episode so far in season 2 which MAY beclassed as unsuitable for 10-12 year olds depending on the child. Mentions of escorts and a hooker. Harmless stuff though.
