So what do people think is the one place on boards that the users really take seriously?

The reason i brought this up was all the mention of old posters on here had me thinking of what i was at on this years ago.....
I then taught about a thread i started in the pets or whatever its called forum which was very personal to me at the time! Lets just say i got a few very mixed private messages and posts aimed at me threw out its duration!!

LGBT forum is an absolute minefield. If you have a question to legitimately ask, I suggest you log off and ask elsewhere. This is from someone who has always been an ally and and always will be.

Ultimately I'd say the feedback forum. If the rest of boards ran like it, boards would be a much more interesting place to read. It's the only place on the site where people consistently disagree, but do so in an informed manner.

    Shooting Forum is pretty hardcore.

I mean that in a good way. Lads take their sport serious and are mindful of bad press. I.E. plenty of lads in the real world will refer to a gun as a weapon, no malice intended but you can't do it there. I understand the fear of bad press.

Also a helpful group there if you have a shooting sport query.

First they came for the socialists...

Course you can. Most people there are very friendly, even if we're not in the same [looks around sheepishly] wavelength

The Waterford forum seems oddly contentious - I remember clicking on some innocuous-seeming thread about some infrastructure proposal, and one of the first posts was:
    100 years of state-sponsored apartheid

A lot of the threads seem to descend into rounds recriminations and bans, until the thread (which is about a new roundabout or something) is eventually locked.

Whatever you do, do not mention Kilkenny! Of all the regional forums that I've encountered, I think Waterford is the strangest and most insular.

The Galway City forum can be very intense at times. Especially the threads about traffic. (I lurk there, but am rarely brave enough to post :pac:)

And god forbid someone posts something in there that should be in the Galway County forum!

We who frequent the Knitting forum had a meetup and 3 attendees ended up in A and E with one in intensive care. Mrs O'Leary is facing a 24 month sentence for stabbing Mrs Lynch in the neck with a knitting needle after an argument broke out about the intricacies of the cable stitch.

You're all wrong btw, the only answer to the question in the OP is the Werewolf Forum.

I think all forums have their sacred cows and the long time high priests to defend the orthodoxy. Here's a selection:

Hybrids and EVs: Say that they are not an environmentally or sustainable transport solution and/or the product isn't good enough yet and you'll be rounded on, even though you are right.

Animal and Pets: Say that dogs that bite should be put down and you'll be told "how could you!" And along will come another poster recommending a dog psychologist or other woo to relieve you of €100/session.

Football: Pointing out that the FAI is in the state it's in because people like the members of the forum still give them money by going to internationals and buying jerseys. Justified by "supporting the lads" or other BS by the main posters. Of course, not forgetting that football forum is so childish that you need permission to post there.

Politics: the orthodoxy there is that whatever the EU does it must be good and not challenged. In the context of Brexit it had been quickly forgotten that our partners saw to turn the screw on us with an unaffordable 6.5% bailout, that the EU isn't all sweetness and light.

Motors: you have somewhat rival factions here with regards speeding and motorway behavior. You have ivory towerists that seemingly never do anything wrong on the road, and another camp that think it is their good given right to drive as fast as they like on the motorway.

I ain't kidding one bit, the Chess and Astronomy fora can get very serious. Both have had major turf wars connected to real world infighting in their various administrations. Shakespearean at times.

Animal and Pets. The crap that has gone on on there is incredible. It's my only self-imposed forum ban, and the only place I've ever had even the slightest bit of hassle in over 15 years on this site.

Aviation is very serious. I read it most days but would be afraid to post there most of the time.

One that surprised me in its hostility was the Surfing forum. I always thought surfers were chilled out. Not so.
