My friends car was genuinely off the road for 2 years as he was ill (no tax insurance or nct) but it wasn't declared off the road so it has arrears.
He's now trying to get it back on the road again.
I heard a rumour somewhere that you can transfer the "log book" to a family member and then back to him again and that would clear the arrears on the car? Is this true?

Yes, it is but it'll show two extra owners on the logbook after he transfers it back to himself. Might be a problem when/if he sells it.

Sell to family or friend and after a week or when get VLC back fill in and buy back...

Nobody cares in tax office and it's a loophole.

If its an old car then you can do this no problem. Who cares if it has an extra owner or two on the book.... I wouldn't give a sh!te personally.

Probably more importantly, does your friend scrape back in within 2 years from expiry of his last Insurance to keep his NCB ????
