I'm looking at purchasing a new or nearly new car (probably for 2021), and I'm looking for suggestions. Currently in a 2018 Civic 1.5 GT Pack manual and looking for something with more power. Normally max 2 people in the car but I do like a decent boot, or flexibility of space.

Budget 35-45k (maybe could stretch to 50k for something very very special). Mileage 20-25 k km annually, most of that motorway

    Must haves:
    200+hp and fun
Hatch, saloon or estate (soft spot for estates)
    Auto
Adaptive cruise and lane keeping assist (preferably some sort of autonomous driving)
    Sunroof
    Heated Seats
    LED headlights
    Comfortable yet agile
    Preference for petrol
No plug (currently waiting for more electric options, and next car likely to be full electric)
Good stereo and apple car play

    Nice to have:
    Leather
    Adaptive suspension
    Digital dials
    Efficient

I've been looking at but not test driven:

Mercedes CLA AMG Line (new is out of budget once the must haves are included)
BMW 3 series touring (New is well out of budget in 330i m sport spec, and the other specs don't do it justice). I'd love a M340i touring.
Both of the above are relatively new models so second hand choice is limited
New upcoming Octavia VRS (looks don't do it for me at all)
New upcoming Cupra Leon (like the look of both hatch and estate)
Golf GTI (new will be out of budget and likely some time away before being released and I only like the looks of the new model)
BMW 1 series (limited power unless M135i - out of budget)
BMW 2 series GC (limited power unless M235i - out of budget)

Eagerly awaiting what the new MB C class coupe and BMW 4 look like.

Other suggestions or comments on the eclectic bunch above?

How about something a bit left field that you might not have thought of say a Kia Stinger. They look lovely in Red or Blue. A Ford Mustang you might get one second hand in budget. Just a coule of out there options.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

By then you’d get a 1/1.5 year old Bmw 330e for 45k - 280bhp and good spec in Uk - I’d get msport+ at minimum

He said no plug in cars

I would reconsider the no plug in and go for a new model 330e, the vrt is very cheap on these so you could have a very high spec one in for your budget.

These would be very similar to the 330i but a lot cheaper. Interested to hear why you are against them.

Other option would be to go for the 2018 340i or this is a great buy here I think. 440i in a very nice spec which is basically brand new despite the 182 plate

I move around a bit so having off street parking or charging point isn’t guaranteed. 330e is certainly a good deal, I couldn’t disagree.

I typically wouldn’t use my car for a commute to the electric benefits would be lost on me in that sense

Nice 440i, however I would have to compromise on some of my must haves, which is something I may have to consider.

There does seem to be some good deals on bringing in from the UK. Clock is ticking on that

These Stingers seem to be few and far between. Mostly diesels. I’m not entirely sold on the interior.

I’m not a fan of the Mustang to be honest

Funnily enough I was on the Alfa website last night. The veloce could be had new with most of my must haves at the very upper end of the budget, before and deal being discussed.

    Would 2016 be too old?

You'd easily get a Gs450h which is ugly but goes like hell when you floor them at 50km, as quick from standstill, realible and comfy. Loaded with extras.

Also a 640d, slightly slower but cheaper to fuel.

Never owned a 430d but look good and should be fun due to size.

A GS450h...he’s looking for a fun car not an oddball hybrid.

Would you not consider the type r version of your civic ?

Test drive it. In terms of dynamics and sheer driving, very very little on the market category comes anywhere close to it. Genuinely drives like a sportscar while being a comfortable cruiser when needed. The Quadrifoglio is especially impressive at that, but objectively the Veloce is the most satisfying on normal roads (and even that...doesn't take a lot to endanger your license :D ).

Don't blame me if it ruins all other cars for you :D

You could just never charge it - reasonable mpg like a petrol and you'd still have the full 280bhp.

Then if there comes a time when you can charge it you will or else it will help resale value.

You’re making me scared at the possibility of love. Veloce is misano blue is a looker.

Funnily enough the dealers on Carzone seem to have a 6-7k markup on the Alfa website list price. Seems a bit odd.

I think it’s getting a bit long in the tooth, and although I love the looks of my car, the type r might be a bit much

Fair point. I don’t think they do it in the touring though. I’d have a preference for a touring if I went 3 series.
