I see Patagonia have said they'll stop advertising on Facebook in protest to Facebook's refusal to follow Twitter's lead and stifle free speech.

What is your view on companies the world over acting socially responsible? Is it even a businesses responsibility to behave in such a way. I honestly have no time for companies like Patagonia, you sell overpriced clothes, stop trying to act like what you do is life changing.

Companies make business-related calls to deny and/or support denial of platform to certain individuals and ideas, in the hope of not alienating customers. Very little of it is altruistic, and none of it has anything to do with "free speech".

For companies social justice is only about money.

LinkedIn is ruined with every account trying to out virtue-signal each other.

I don't think companies should get involved in these kinds of things. The most a company should be doing is ensuring their supply chain and company policies/practices are ethical, and that they treat their employees properly. After that, I don't think they should get involved really. The post above showing Bethesda and BCG changing their social media icons to the rainbow flag, but not in Middle Eastern areas proves this point. They are only playing to their audiences, and unfortunately on this side of the world (ie: not backwards countries) not participating is seen as taking a side, the "wrong" side.

Personally, for me, this virtue signalling actively turns me off a company or their product. Not that I don't use their products (in the case of Bethesda, I usually end up buying their games a while after release once they've fixed their bugs and produce a playable game), but I will look at alternatives first. I dislike bandwagoning of all types really.
