You can see public unrest and violence in the hypothetical situation you came up with.

I've said it before, you do yourself no good coming up with various situations

...except the media and government didn't say any of that.

Exactly, they didn't advise people to lose weight or change their diet, or make sure they are getting enough sunlight/vitamin D ...

    Inventing things again? Okay.

Public unrest and violence have been predicted since April last year. Nothing.

They didn't tell them not to either. It's common sense. Complain when the government are too hands on, complain when they are not.

You'll never get widespread public unrest and violence in southern Ireland in regards covid. We are the most compliant nation in the western world when it comes to this virus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,735 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

We have done everything they have asked for 15 months, yet we are still facing into another major lockdown in the Autumn.

No matter what argument is put to them now, their answer will always start with "....yeah, but the X variant".

You claimed media and government were actively instructing this woman not to exercise or eat healthily

The goalposts of keeping hospitals from being overwhelmed has never changed. That has always been the goal. Any other promises will be broken because this takes paramount. You're wasting your time with fixed dates of opening up with such a variable virus.

Did you see Jacinda Adhern saying "Trust us - we are your ONE SOURCE of TRUE information -

    Everything else you can dismiss"

What an authoritarian thug, terrifying statements.

And RTE continue to **** over her...

In the last few decades when have hospitals not been overwhelmed for the most part?

if we are relying on that metric we will never open up in reality or maybe it’s gone to the stage where people will be alright with it anyway, I’m beginning to think they could chance anything and get away with it at this stage

“We need restrictions because of long covid… “ ok what does that mean? What kind of restrictions? What’s the metrics? Oh ffs just stop asking questions, are you a medical expert, no so just do what you’re told. Ok, yes sir, very sorry sir, thank you sir for protecting us!

Do the government need to tell you to lose weight ? I don’t want or need the government to tell me who to look after my health. That’s common sense surely. There are many things during this pandemic that the government have and will get blamed for and rightly so, but having to tell people to lose weight. I know people who lost weight during the early part of the pandemic and have kept it off.

A lockdown in the autumn ? I’ll take the euro millions numbers for tonight thanks NIMAN.

I mean New Zealand did do a better job than most other counties but they did have the added advantage of being in the other back arse of nowhere in the globe which did help, and as we see Australia who also was praised is in a spot of bother now in some part of that county.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,249 ✭✭✭TomSweeney

Christ, the point is all they advised people to do was stay at home, wear masks ...

Never anything about losing weight being a good idea since obesity was so closely related to serious covid.

or taking vitamin D ... or sunlight.

It’s the one good thing I will take out of this mess of a year and half, which is that as someone who used to worry about things that in hindsight it was pointless worrying about because I couldn’t control it. From now on I will worry about things I can control and if I can’t then Ill leave it off as they say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,443 ✭✭✭✭stephenjmcd

That's it I'd have been the same at the start but as things went on I was just like why am I worrying about something I can't control, such as the decisions on opening dates etc, I might not like them or agree with some of them but what's the point in getting worked up, I've no input into the decision making

Two months time?? are the aussies not talking about another already, their Lambda variant, (or is it as Michael O Leary said recently another "scarient").

Can't shut down everything except supermarkets, gotta keep the newsagents/tobacconists and take-away junk food places open.

Well done, you've refuted my claim that there were no positive reports about low figures a month or so ago by providing a positive report from over 3 months ago. Oh wait, you haven't, once again you've just taken something I didn't say and argued against that.

But at least you agree that RTE are scaremongering, so that's something.

In other news, here's the minister for health helpfully putting things in context:

"...the range for fatalities is between 335 and 1,760 people, "put that in context, in the War of independence 2,300 people died," he said."

Because the War of Independence is a totally useful comparison and the best context available. Far better than, say, comparing against the number of people who have died previously during the current pandemic.

    You couldn't make that up

They really are an embarrassment of a government

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,738 ✭✭✭robbiezero

I dunno. I think the backlash to the delay on July 5th lit a serious fire under the Government. They are still bungling, spineless incompetents, but in a bigger hurry now.

Due to fly into Ireland from the UK on the 19th of August for a week to see family, whats the vibe over there do yee reckon there will there still be a 14 day quarantine from uk by then? Got a feeling I'm gonna struggle to get back as case are exploding here now.

If you are fully vaccinated you don't have to quarantine after July 19

A new report from the campaigner of locking down a country for months

    https://twitter.com/TheTwatRises/status/1415555245984436227

"if you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station, the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,870 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Ok so instead of a good news sorry one month ago I gave you one from 3 months, you caught me, well done, of course the figures were hovering about 300-400 for the last 3 months but if you want to take it as a win then fair enough

Donnelly reporting 1200 and the actual figure being 1,173, small difference in the grand scheme of things but ICU numbers are growing fairly fast, 23 today, 13 last week... I'd like to know how many of them were unvaccinated 50+ year olds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭Amadan Dubh

Based on today's 1000+ cases with 50% being in the 19-34 year old age group, statistically there is a 0% chance of any of that group needing ICU treatment or dying.

"Hold firm", "the next two weeks [of vaccinations] are crucial".

I've never seen so much media attention for the way covid allegedly affects young people, right when vaccinations are open to them. When schools were opening we heard nothing about this.

Aren't we lucky to live in such peaceful times that someone can call Jacinda Ardern an "Authoritarian thug" and get lots of people agreeing.

Project Fear is really ramping up today. Donnelly doing his best to put out as many scary soundbites as he can. At what point are we going to see real protests against all this crap? The couple of small ones this week were unfortunately dominated by the lunatic fringe which makes it easy for the Media to dismiss them.

My fear is that we'll be too far gone by the time anyone realises what's going on
