That’s brilliant. J&J is the game changer! If we can keep pumping that into the younger cohorts then we’re in an even better place!

Does anyone know the possible percentage of population with anti bodies without vaccination?

the fact they mentioned that the rise in cases amongst 16-34 is exceptional, dare I say it herd immunity isn’t that far away…

My 29 year old gf is pregnant 16 weeks, they asked her if she wanted a vaccine at 12 week check in Holles st. Told they would be registered with hse for one but haven't heard anything yet.

Is there any issue with her registering herself seen as it's open for her age now ?

    My kids are young.

2, 6 and 8. Imo they should be done in the pharmacies asap with whatever vaccine is available. Preferably the J&J one as it’s one and done.

As I say with camps it makes sense to get the kids done now.

Thank god the uptake for the younger population seems to be high enough and a lot wanting to get the vaccine, but slightly concerned that it seems to be a growing number who are now saying what’s the point in getting it if you can catch covid anyway.

Spoken to a few 20 year who are in the mindset they would rather get immunity by catching it especially if they don’t get very ill form it .

No point explaining to them about protecting others who might not as healthy as they are , or that a certain number of younger people will end up in hospital or have longer covid symptoms.

But there's no vaccine approved by EMA for under 12s as far as I'm aware.

If you talk to them again, tell them they are far safer going down the vaccines route. If they are doubly vaccinated (or get the J & J), the chances of them being laid up in bed for a week or two, hospitalised (or worse) are hugely reduced.

I will but some young lads think they are invincible . I fully understand they have to have a life as well and was explaining getting the vaccine will get them back to some normality.

Very interesting correlation between vaccine levels and rise in delta cases in Europe. The higher the vaccination level in a country the steeper the increase in cases in July. Eastern European countries where vaccine hesitancy is much higher have much lower per Capita case levels.

That doesn't make much sense. There is no Covid vaccine that could cause people to 'get' the Delta variant. I'm guessing this is something to do with testing or reporting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 512 ✭✭✭robinbird

Don't know. That could be a factor.

But these eastern European countries had high case numbers before. Now they don't. Whereas cases are skyrocketing in highly vaccinated countries like UK, Belgium and Netherlands.

Highly vaccinated Israel is to urgently begin vaccinating children in an attempt to stem the increase in delta cases there.

Cases in Europe have always started west to east. You can see this on any chart. It has absolutely nothing to do with vaccines.

Best to call the hospital or the HSE helpline. I think it’s a separate process for pregnant women. You can’t just turn up at the vaccination centre. Even without a bump showing, she would be asked if she is or could be pregnant and as far as I know if you answer yes they turn you away (open to correction on that).

What exactly are you trying to suggest? You seem to have a bizarre agenda in here constantly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 512 ✭✭✭robinbird

Possibly. I'm not drawing an conclusions. There could be many factors. Just an observation

I'm 22 and just registered with hse for the vaccine, it seems the system let's 18+ now register!

They’re different bubbles of mingling too in terms of holiday destinations, likelihood of travel etc.

The same happened earlier in the pandemic. You’d initially lower rates in eastern EU member states and a lot of self congratulatory nonsense. Then it just floored them when it spread.

We’re just seeing movement / travel / contact patterns that follow where people mingle. Western EU states all get hit in the same waves because people are flowing around. We had stricter travel movement restrictions but we are repeatedly infected via the U.K. with whom we’ve an open border and they’ve had periods of being very lax about aspects of travel and testing at various times.

It follows the herd around and in terms of movement of people there are distinctly different travel patterns in different regions of Europe. We very much fall into the U.K. + Western Europe / Northern Europe bubble.

If the European Medicines Agency says that the vaccines are suitable for children, why has NIAC not made a decision yet? Why not make a start on the vaccination of children before the end of the summer holidays? If the will was there, most secondary school pupils would be vaccinated by Hallowe'en.

The safety is not in question, it's whether we need to do so. It's 12-15 BTW they approved it for. If we decide to go with it, it's likely it'll be Sept/Oct for the two shots.

They seem to be going through the ages fairly quickly now. Based on this, how likely would I get my second shot on day 28?

I had mine on Thursday. I was expecting to have nothing more than a sore arm and that was all I had until pretty much exactly 24 hours later got aches and pains, some of it pretty nasty and a mild fever (if you can call it that, 37.5). The pain is not so much at the injection site but in my armpit and my face aches like I've got the flu. I think it's getting better now though but I expect to feel a bit crappy for the next day maybe. How nice though that this happens right now when it's +26 outside and +30 indoors...

I got vaccinated through the pregnancy route. I was referred through the hospital and when I tried to register on the portal as a back up, I couldn’t as my PPSN was already used. She could try and see if she’s able to.

you can get the vaccine after 14 weeks pregnant.

Does anyone know if they plan to open up J&J at the pharmacies for those aged between 35 and 49? Currently 34 and below or 50 and above

Pretty much 24 hours after my second it was the same. 2nd dose 3pm Sunday. Monday afternoon the aches started. By the time I got home from work I was like an old man getting out of the car. Went straight to bed, slept for an hour and a half and woke up pretty much back to normal.

Vaccine cert email arrived today, so a small bit of pain for a lot of gain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,472 ✭✭✭Mimon

Exactly the same for me with 24 hours after the 2nd jab it hitting me. Could barely walk as muscles seized up, random pains in joints.

Was way better the morning after. Well worth it.

Looks like 12-16 year olds especially medically vulnerable will be somewhat vaccinated this summer according to the times!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 512 ✭✭✭robinbird

UK has just announced that there will be no mass vaccination of children.

However all indications are that we will begin doing so in August using vaccines in storage.

Initially 12-17 yr olds but PFizer is ready to release vaccines for pre teens.

I can't see them using AZ for vaccinating children and they have very little Pfizer left to be delivered (it's all earmarked for second doses)

40mil ordered, 19.7mil first doses given. They will be waiting for their second Pfizer order to be delivered.... 60mil additional doses were only ordered back in late April 2021.
