COH 3 is long overdue, not as a third main entry of a great franchise but SEGA has owned both Relic and Creative Assembly for years now and it feels like it's only now that they've realized 'Oh we own the two best RTS companies still actively making RTS games, we should get them to share notes" Cause COH 3 campaign is drawing heavily from Total War and has a campaign map of Italy that if you put it side by side with the Rome 2 map of Italy you'd think they were the same game and that there was just some sort of ERA system in play.

Also they have a single playtest you can sign up to open right away which gives you a lot (except mine keeps crashing on the first mission)

Relic has done world maps stuff before, would have preferred for it to be more like wargame or steel division where even at the larger scale it was still real time.

They've done world maps in ardennes assault and DOW dark crusade etc, but they were very different to this. They tended to be pick a sector to attack sort of maps, this is actually moving units around a turn base map. It's pretty much identical to the style of turn based campaign map the total war series has been using since Rome Total war

    You can see here:

Stream announced their new handheld earlier. Looks good and reasonable entry price at €419.

So 6PM our time tomorrow reservations open is it? For the sake of €4 I'll save myself a spot.

Yea I am of the same mind, don't expect to see it until next year some time though.

I can't decide if the Deck looks hideous or not; definitely a case of function over form IMO. I do wonder how it'll keep itself current against the constant uptick of GFX horsepower needed with PC games.

€420 for the basic model ain't to be sneezed at either; though like the Steam Controller I'd be curious how well / badly some games might control with this. I'd pay @ancapailldorcha try to play Crusader Kings on the Deck 😁

At the very least, they know quality games.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

I couldn't imagine a game so UI and keyboard intensive(?) working on this Deck - then again, Civ6 works fine on the Switch so who knows?

Presumably they've tested it if they're using it for marketing. CK3 was designed to be a lot more accessible regarding its UI than CK2. I'll remain open minded for now.

The main question, if it's good, is whether I can blag my way into getting it above shoes and clothes for my son lol. I'd ruled out playing COh3 without the right hardware but suddenly the possibly has opened up a tad.

Sure this will last longer than his shoes and clothes. You'll just be buying more for him later anyway so what's the point in buying any now?

So much for ordering a Steam Deck. Says my account is too new despite having made purchases prior to June 2021.

Edit: Finally got one. Estimated delivery Q2 2022.

With Extraction and Darktide both being delayed, Back 4 Blood could have a great launch (assuming it isn't delayed further itself).

You just jinxed it. If Back 4 Blood gets delayed, we know who to blame 😁

^^^Project Battlecat or whatever they nicknamed it. I'm sure the announcement is in no way an attempt to distract from the news that they're being sued by the French game workers union for "institutional sexual harassment". :pacwouldgohere:

For reference, these are the franchises that won't be at EA Play:

    - No Mass Effect

    - No Dragon Age

    - No Star Wars

    - No Skate 4

I'm hoping for UFC 5 and NBA Live news but wouldn't be surprised if this was one big demo of Fifa and Madden.

They might show the Dead Space reboot/revival/sequel/whatever, although personally I'm not that interested in it.

    What is Tom Clancy’s XDefiant?

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is a free-to-play, fast-paced, first-person shooter. It combines intense gunplay with personalized loadouts and specialized factions as teams of gunfighters, called Defiants, battle for domination. Developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, Tom Clancy’s XDefiant features playable factions from the Tom Clancy universe and beyond, each with unique abilities. Pair that with an arsenal of primary and secondary weapons, attachments, and devices to complete your loadout, and go to battle with a variety of maps and modes.

    Personalized Playstyle

Personalize your Defiant to match your playstyle. Choose your faction, traits, abilities, and ultras. Select from an arsenal of primary and secondary weapons, attachments, and a device to complete your loadout – then tweak it on the fly to adapt to an ever-changing battlefield.

    Competitive Clashes

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant offers a variety of competitive 6v6 arena and linear game modes, such as Domination and Escort. Combine that with a large pool of uniquely designed maps in rotation and no two matches will feel the same.

    Diverse Factions of Defiants

Wolves, Outcasts, Cleaners, and Echelon factions battling across iconic locations is just the starting point. We’ll keep adding to our cast of Defiants as the game evolves, drawing on a range of characters and abilities from the Clancy universe and beyond.

Saw nothing there to pique my interest.

Actually a great way to tease your game when it's too early to show gameplay.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 50,925 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

No it's not. They should just wait until they have something to show.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 50,925 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I very much doubt it was up to the devs. That's pretty much on the publisher pushing the devs out in front of the camera when they have nothing ready, probably to try and boost a disappointing line up and appease shareholders worried that a disappointing line up will tank share prices.

The developers definitely are not responsible for this one as I'm sure plenty have been on disaster or cancelled projects before.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 50,925 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Easy mistake to make. Just find it unfair that devs get all the flak when the vast majority of the time its publishers and money men that ruin projects. No dev ever sets out to make a bad game.
